Dr. Benglis and his physician assistant, Ms. Jessica Shyr, are invaluable allies for anyone undergoing neurosurgery. On September 13th, 2024, I underwent surgery for my L4-L5, involving thoracic joint replacement, lumbar stenosis treatment, spinal fusion for spondylolisthesis, and correction of vertebral tilting and compression of the lumbar spine. Upon my initial encounter with Dr. Benglis and Jessica, I felt a divine providence leading me to them. Both individuals showed attentiveness, composure, expertise, transparency, and reassurance in their diagnosis and treatment strategy for my issue. During my initial visit, I experienced excruciating pain, as my health, stemming from a vehicle accident in 2010, had deteriorated significantly since April 2023. I was descending, experiencing significant discomfort in my gluteal regions, and had confined myself to my bed, as it was the most comfortable location for me. As a result, my neurologist, Dr. Kenneth Lazarus, sent me to Dr. Benglis in August of this year. Upon meeting him and Jessica, I recognized that I was in the appropriate setting for treatment. Celia, his scheduler, made the initial contact for the appointment, demonstrating Dr. Benglis and Jessica's commitment to patient welfare. She requests that you bring disks containing MRI or CT scan details to your appointment. Even the day before the appointment, Celia reminds you of those CDs. Dr. Benglis possesses an exceptional operation scheduler, Ms. Adrianna Gonzalez, who guarantees the completeness and accuracy of insurance information. She is patient and accommodating with questions about your surgery date and the necessary preparations, including blood work and preoperative information, prior to your appointment. Jessica was exceedingly essential in ensuring my understanding of the protocols for discontinuing medications before surgery and reviewing a manual outlining the guidelines to follow before and after the procedure. I experienced tranquility thanks to Dr. Benglis and his colleagues. The surgery lasted between five and six hours, possibly longer. The outcome was also favorable. My spouse stated that Dr. Benglis met him after the surgery in a room, where he explained the procedure's events and laid out the recovery expectations. He depicted on the whiteboard the apparatus he inserted into me during the surgical procedure. My spouse expressed admiration for Dr. Benglis' methodology and the extensive time he dedicated to ensuring my husband comprehended the events that occurred. Dr. Benglis and the surgical team members present during the operation later visited me. Dr. Benglis informed me that all proceeded satisfactorily. My lipstick's durability during the surgery, even with the tube in my throat, amazed him and the team. I found that to be quite charming. They observed the minutiae. In the subsequent days of my hospital stay, Dr. Gropper, his physician assistant, and Jessica visited every day to monitor my condition. Following my surgery, Dr. Benglis went on vacation. Dr. Gropper seated himself each morning and exhibited a cordial concern for my well-being, ensuring that I received the necessary medications for my rehabilitation. My anemia caused my blood pressure to drop multiple times. Jessica, Dr. Benglis, and the exceptional nurses at Piedmont Atlanta diligently monitored my medications to ensure that my blood pressure remained stable and did not decrease owing to a specific drug. Jessica informed me that she ordered two intravenous medications to help restore my blood pressure to normal levels. She and Dr. Gropper informed me that if the medication proved ineffective, they would arrange for a transfusion. I prayed, and the prescription proved effective. I had an exceptional team of physicians and medical personnel. I am grateful to God for the outcome and for guiding me to such an exceptional group during such a delicate process. Atlanta Brain and Spine Care is unparalleled.

Wonderful Dr and Staff
Dr Benglis has taken care of my spinal needs on 2 occasions- first in my lower back & later in my neck. He explains things well. He takes the time to listen to his patients and answers questions. He is a top surgeon. I am so glad I was referred to him. His PA and office staff are fabulous as well.

Dr Benglis did my back surgery in June of this year. Both him & his staff, (especially Jessica Shyr, PA) are FANTASTIC! I was very hesitant about having surgery because I hadn't received very good medical care for my back since arriving in Georgia. Had my surgery up at Piedmont in Atlanta & the staff that took care of me were great along with Dr Benglis, Jessica, or another of the providers in the office that did rounds always made sure all my questions were answered prior to leaving my room. Which was great to experience being on that side of the bed. I've been driving 2hrs each way to see him for my appointments & the surgery. But it is so worth the drive-I am so grateful to him & his expertise. I am still recovering and from what I understand I do have several more months to go in my recovery process. His staff is very responsive and communication is beyond belief. They truly have the best interests of the patient in mind.

I have no pain after 13 years and 4 surgeries. He and his entire staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and went the extra mile for me. He performed a two-stage surgery to insert a spacer between S-1 and L-5. Both surgeries went well and now I am on NO pain meds. This is the first time I have been drug free in 12 years. My surgery was beyond my expectations!

Can't say enough good things about Dr. Benglis and his PA, Patty. This practice has also been easy with scheduling appointments and they genuinely care about my health and recovery. I could hardly walk into their office and no the leg pain and numbness are gone. I have degenerating discs so will likely have problems in the future. I will no doubt be returning to Dr. Benglis.

Dr. Benglis is a masterful neurosurgeon. He performed a three level A-Life with posterior bracing (S1-L3). He set up a team of surgeons and performed the operations with permission and great success. I have no pain after ten years. The only think that I would have done different would have been to had the surgery sooner. I was up walking hours after surgery in mid January 2018. I am back at the gym and getting strong every day. I will be 71-years old in October. Thanks, Dr. Benglis and PA Patti

I have been in the businesses of healthcare for 30+ years, so I consider myself a harsh judge of physicians & their staff. I have nothing but the highest praise for Dr. B and his staff. From the appointment staff to the nursing staff to his amazing PA and office manager. They were all kind, patient and empathetic. Dr. B. took all the time I needed to show me on his computer what my problem was and made sure I completely understood what was going on. This is a model practice w/great people

I've had lower back issues for the past 15 years. So after a recent worsening in which chiropractic could no longer help, I was referred to Dr Benglis. By a friend in the medical device industry who has seen hundreds of local doctors in action. The reason he referred Benglis was due to his conservative approach as well as his abilities in the event I did need surgery. Ultimately he recommended first going through epideral treatments and I'm now back on the golf course (no surgery).

I had a laminectomy done at L5-S1 levels. Absolute worst experience ever. They said I was going to be "sore" and be out of work for two weeks, yeah right. It was almost 3 months before I could return to work, and I have a call center job. Instead of sending me for aquatic physical therapy as standard procedure after back surgery, he sent me to a hole in the wall rehab center for 8 visits, I am still having ongoing issues with the disc & refuses to see me. Office loses records on a daily basis

I'm 6 mos post L34,L45 fusion totally pain free. Surgery a great success. Dr. B & his staff are wonderful. If you're as scared of back surgery as I was, this is the doc for you. He's excellent. Can't say enough. I heard so many horror stories about back surgery, & met people that still had pain after surgery & could not return to their normal activities. I'm 67, go to the gym 6 days a week, playing golf already at my same 13 HCP. Just followed hubby all over a 9mi Spartan race and never an ache.

Like most patients looking at spinal surgery, I was a little fearful. But Dr. Benglis explained what he would do and why, and answered all my questions, and I was reassured. He never seemed too hurried to take time with me, and I felt he cared about me as well as my outcome. The staff made the pre-surgery process easy and were attentive to my progress afterward. The operation made a big difference, and it is wonderful not to feel that pain anymore. I'm grateful to the doctor and his staff.

Dr. Benglis and his staff are absolutely wonderful. I felt a sense of peace the first time I entered his office. The staff was courteous and completely explained my condition and what steps would be taken to assist me getting better. Dr. Benglis is a Neurosurgeon who uses surgery as the last option. He takes the time to make sure you feel comfortable with choices being made. I'll never forget what he said to me about my surgery, "If I take you in it (surgery), I bring you trough it".

I was first referred to Dr. Benglis by another doctor because of numbness in both hands that emanated to both shoulders. After he reviewed by records and determined that my condition was something he could deal with, an appointment was scheduled. From that point on, I have always felt Dr. Benglis and his entire staff are super qualified and super professional. I was made aware of everything that was going to happen with my surgery and recuperation and the process was seamless.
