Dr. Steven Willis, DO

I made an appointment with Dr. Willis because he was the first doctor available when I started experiencing knee pain, out of nowhere, at 30 years old. At the appointment, he spent less than 5 minutes telling me I had knee pain in medical terms and prescribed me ibuprofen. When I inquired as to WHY I would have started having knee pain, he got defensive and replied “I’m sorry you’re not satisfied with my explanation”, at which point I gave up on gaining value from the consult and waited for him to print me out online information on stretches. It was a waste of a copay and I regret not having waited for an appointment with my primary care physician, Dr. Yousufi, MD, who is not only more capable technically but socially.

In November 2023, Dr. Willis saw my son for a growth on his head. I mentioned that Melanoma runs in my family and that my brother has had two, and my mom's first cousin died from it. He insisted we didn't need to see a dermatologist and that it was psoriasis and prescribed shampoo. I looked and it seemed a little better within a few weeks. He wears a hat every day, and his hair covers it, and he said it was better and wasn't bothering him. In February, he was hit in the head with a basketball net and needed a Catscan. They told us to have the growth on his scalp looked at immediately - when I looked it had grown 3x the size. My son has special needs and didn't notice it. It was biopsied the next week and turned out to be Melanoma Stage 2A!! He had to have surgery and a lymph node removed and because the lymph node was cancerous, he now has stage 3 and needs immunotherapy every 3 weeks for a year.

Unlike other reviewers here, my experience with Dr. Willis has been nothing but positive. Yes, scheduling a visit can often take awhile but that's the fault of the system. There is no hint of the arrogance I associate with so many male doctors. He's approachable, knowledgeable, thorough, and answers all questions. I never feel rushed. Email queries are quickly responded to by his staff. He is also my son's doctor and he's very happy with him as well.

I can’t get a visit and when I write the office. Must be seen. When I tell him I can’t even get a phone appointment. Suggest Woodland Hills Urgent Care. Response time when I write the office 7-10 days. Why have an assigned doctor,

He wont have any answers to your questions and because of that, he'll try to rush you out the door. Dismissive and inexperienced. He makes it very clear that he has very limited time even though he only spent 10 minutes with you... that was just too long.
