Arrogant
Dr Koonce, needs to deflate his ego. He dismissed everything that was wrong with my hip and what had been confirmed by his college. He is the worst provider I have ever see and blatantly told me there was nothing he could do for me. I have a labral tear, and hip dysplasia. He told me most people have labral tears and that my hip dysplasia was even debatable. Read the reviews of this provider and don't waste your time. Go to someone who will treat you with dignity and empathy.

An excellent surgeon
Dr Koonce performed my knee replacement surgery and in six weeks, I was able to walk easily and had few restrictions ( no skiing or jumping) His staff was very professional and the entire experience exceeded my expectations. I would recommend him to do your knee replacement surgery

The communication left a lot to be desired
The first visit is not with the Doctor, but with his PA. They rely exclusively on an X-ray to determine eligibility. I still had some cartilage, but my knee pain had been severe for years. During the second visit Dr. Koonce did pop in for a few moments and told me that I still had some cartilage, so I wasn't the optimum candidate. Then I went through Pre Op and finally I went for surgery. I'm in the room, gowned up and ready to go in. Dr. Koonce comes into the room and does a hard press to talk me out of surgery saying I could never kneel again, the chance of infections was high and that I wouldn't be satisfied with the results. So I decided not to go ahead. But all of this should have happened at the first appointment, not when I was in the hospital for the surgery. I then had an MRI which indicated that I had moderate to severe cartilage loss and my meniscus was badly torn. Dr. Koonce office referred me to another surgeon and they never called. Not a great experience.

Second Opinion
Dr. Koonce was 6 star excellent. One of the best physician visits I have had in quite some time. This appointment was to get his opinion regarding a very complex situation with my left knee and hip and not for surgery. Dr. Koonce did the appropriate imaging, then did an examination of my left lower extremity and then spent considerable time discussing my situation and all of the different options available. Dr. Koonce allowed sufficient time for me to provide input into my care. He was most understanding of my situation. Masterful!!!! Once again, I would highly recommend him. Over the top good......

I had partial replacement on both knees, two months apart in fall of 2016. Patellar Femoral. I am in my early 50s. Both have come out fabulous --- better than I have been in 20 years. Surgery was done at Sky Ridge in Lone Tree - all excellent. Dr. Koonce was pleasant, professional and in my case an excellent surgeon. He was highly recommended to me by other people who had replacements done by him. I will take surgical skill over couch therapy/hand holding any day. Thank you Dr. Koonce
