Dr. Sterling gave me a very helpful referral from a knee brace from a doctor who is an acknowledged leader in the field.

Healthcare Executive - Vice President
Dr Sterling did an outstanding job of delivering the best patient outcome possible for my hip replacement. From the outset, he explained in great detail the course of treatment, beginning with a recommended conservative plan approach. We did not move forward with the recommendation for a hip replacement until we were both satisfied that all conservative measures of treatment had been exhausted. Once we set the surgery date, Dr. Sterling and his team fully outlined the prerequisites to surgery, the surgical procedure as well as the post-operative expectations. I was particularly appreciative of the steps Dr. Sterling took to collaborate with several specialists on my care team. The peer – peer physician consultation Dr. Sterling conducted on my behalf with both my gastroenterologist and plastic and reconstructive surgeon resulted in a positive adjustment to my overall treatment plan. As a healthcare executive, fluent in the landscape, I could not have asked for a better experience.

Dr. Sterling was warm, knowledgeable, listened to my concerns, and explained my condition to me in terms I understood. He provided a treatment plan that takes the long view, not just a quick fix.

Dr. Sterling was my surgeon for my knee replacement in 2018 and I just had my 2nd knee done in January 2020. He is a wonderful surgeon and is surrounded by a great staff. Any questions I had were answered and I felt very confident going into surgery. My outcome from both surgeries was positive and I would highly recommend him.

I am a 61 years old male with several significant goals I want to achieve over the next decade. Despite the fact that my medical condition will require three (3) surgeries within five (5) years, I am convinced that I will reach my goals (with the exception of unforeseen circumstances) as a direct result of how Dr. Sterling approached my current need for surgery. Please understand that when my PCP make a referral my expectations are high regarding a seasoned surgeon's bedside manners in how he/she treats his patient. Dr Sterling has exceeded my expectations, therefore, I look forward to a healthy and productive recovery. It's not that I expect or look for a negative experience prior to my visit. Rather, I expect to receive something that I can build upon to enrich the remainder of my life in spite of my deteriorating condition and Dr. Sterling has given me confidence. That quality isn't taught in any med school or hospital. So, if you're in need of an orthopedic surgeon- Dr R. Sterling.

Dr Sterling and everyone of the staff that I encountered were extremely kind and empathetic. They helped to answer my questions and calm my pre surgery fears. I am now 5 days post op and I could not imagine the process flowing any more smoothly.

I have total confidence in Dr Sterling and wouldn’t trust my knees to anyone else. Regardless of how busy he is he takes time to address your concerns and answer all questions. He also solicits his patients’ feedback to his advice and shows genuine concern for their healing, comfort and well being.

I travel quarterly from the Pittsburgh, PA, area to have Dr. Sterling treat the pain in my knees. He’s very thorough and listens to all of my issues. His treatment has definitely improved my quality of life. Yes, Pittsburgh has some very good hospitals; but, Dr. Sterling and Johns Hopkins take it a step above to world class service.

Great visit and my review matches the many others online. Great doctor and staff. Professional and confident. I love that he uses the less risky spinal anesthesia. I saw 3 other surgeons before coming to Dr. Sterling. All were excellent. The spinal anesthesia and his confidence made the difference for me.

Entire experience was exceptional. The care, the time given to me to make me feel safe and comfortable and the inclusion of my husband as a part of my support team all came together in a very seamless manner. Last but not least - I had no issues as a result of surgery and I feel great.

Dr Sterling and his team were prompt and courteous. Dr Sterling said as long as the treatment I was getting on my knee continued to be of benefit to continue with that treatment. When my current treatments no longer work, I should come back to see him.
