Run! Stay away! He sucks!
I had 2 surgeries with this man and they both failed! 1st surgery was home a week and the rod broke, that was December! February i had a 2nd surgery and 4 rods broke! I went to see him again and he kept saying lets wait and see what happens! I waited and then he tells me he will be gone a month. But if i need to see someone else that he was sure one of his associates could handle it! I saw another surgeon and was really please with his plan. The only problem was that Placide kept canceling my surgery! The other surgeon sent me to UVA! Best thing that ever happened to me! I can now walk straight. Minimum pain. If you want a top doctor see Dr Josh Li. It is worth the drive! UVA hospital is wonderful! They even have rooms for your family to stay at a small cost! I wish Dr Placide never operated on me! Worse doctor ever!

So disappointed
I scheduled with Dr. Placide as he is the best of the best (having seen the work he does and working with him). I waited months for an appt, suffering with spine issues. I did see Dr. Placide in Sept. The numerous films wouldn’t load in the office. He said he would call by the end of the week. That call NEVER came. Fast forward to today, I am recovering from the second of two major spine surgeries in 6 weeks. Two major surgeries that should have taken place months ago, by a surgeon to whom I have referred so, so many people, some of them family and dearest friends. Numerous calls and acknowledged messages, no response. I was BLESSED to be able to get in with my normal ortho in two days. He referred me to an amazing surgeon in his practice who had taken the best care of me. But I will forever remain baffled and COMPLETELY DISAPPOINTED in Dr. Placide. And want to ask forgiveness of the others I referred to him. I hope I have no permanent damage. Not that he would care at this point.

Hard to schedule
This surgeon was recommended to me to correct nerve damage (right drop foot) resulting from previous surgery. I was rescheduled 4 times before I saw him. He outlined a surgical approach to decompress nerves leading to right foot and said he would put me on his surgical calendar. I heard nothing for over 2 months, despite sending emails and leaving phone messages. Meanwhile my drop foot was putting extra pressure on my left hip and leg, causing intense pain. When I finally saw him again he said he was booked up until May (5 months after I initially saw him). This despite telling me that the longer the wait the more chance nerve damage would become permanent. I found another surgeon.

Placide is the Bees Knees!!
Dr. Placide assisted in removing a large malignant tumor from my paraspinal muscles and we had to take quite a bit of my spine with it. He rebuilt me with hardware 5 days later. He is the least cocky of all the surgeons I’ve met in my life. So down to earth and treats me like an equal. He’s a very smart, educated and talented man in orthopedics and spinal specialties. When my hardware failed 2 years later, his disappointment was palpable. His empathy is great for his patients. When he does rounds, I enjoy hearing him coming to my room. His visits are always happy. Also, I haven’t met a member of his team that I haven’t liked. Well, Chuck can be difficult to handle. He’s the office manager and can be short and rude at times. Dr. Placide is the bees knees of surgeons!!

Dr.Placide did decompression surgery at C3 to C7 on my neck I had lost of my strength and mobility in my hands. I now have most of the strength and mobility back. He also did decompression on my lower back because I had also lost mobility and strength there also. I'm now walking better and getting my strength back. As for myself Dr.Placide is the best Spinal Surgeon around.

Dr. Placide is very knowledgeable of spine conditions, and I've seen him since 2011. Lumbar instrumentation and Ankylosing Spondylitis (arthritis of the spine) a painful inflammatory condition. It's comforting to have an orthopedic doctor who is caring, thorough, forthright, listens, and genuinely cares about the individual.

I had spinal decompression & fusion surgery in 2013 with immediate relief of severe sciatica. In 2017 he diagnosed a torn hip abductor tendon, a result of (R) hip revision surgery I had in 2016 by a highly rated surgeon at VCU. I was unable to bear full weight on the operative hip after 6 mos, was told by the hip surgeon it was due to weak quad muscles. I went to Dr. Placide because of sciatica on the (L) side. He said it was from compensation, ordered ESI, which relieved my sciatica pain.
