Dr. Pooja Patel, MD

I have never left a review online but felt moved to leave one after realizing multiple other community members have had similar experiences. I felt like this appointment was traumatic and did not practice trauma-informed care. I felt like an animal and had little humanistic interaction in this setting. I was confused about what was happening. I could hear the staff talking about various upcoming plans while I waited in the room confused about what to do next following pap. It was my first appointment since getting insurance and I looked forward to receiving health care, that being said, I would rather continue with planned parenthood when needed. I fear that people will not seek continual care if their experience with health care is similar to what I experienced at utmb obgyn. If it was a private business, there's no way it could be operational. Even when making the appointment, I asked for a female provider to which the receptionist knowingly or unknowingly mocked the request.

I was satisfied with my recent visit with Dr Patel. Yes, Dr Patel was rushed, but respectful, friendly, and addressed all my concerns and questions. Dr Patel was straightforward, but not pushy. In my case, that was exactly what was needed.

She was very rushed. She did not read her nurse's informatiom about me. She came right in soon after her nurse left giving me barely anytime to change. She also does not listen to your concerns about your body. This was the worst women's exam I have ever had. Not ONCE did she ask me did I have any questions for her or what was bothering me that day. She asked her basic check up questions and said oh ok well that's it. She is a horrible example of what UTMB represents.
