First of all, Dr. Afshari has an excellent team who help you since the very moment you get to the consulting rooms. She showed to be an incredible person, showing a lot of kindness and attention to her patients; she answered the questions and doubts in a very simple way that you get to understand perfectly the situation you are in, and not think that your eye condition is some kind of rocket science.

Dr. Afshari came highly recommended, and for good reason. She proved to be exceptionally competent, proficient and unexpectedly kind. She provided advice and recommendations for treatment of a chronic eye disease. Her expertise has given me both relief and hope. And it was delivered cheerfully with remarkable kindness and a sense of genuine care. I am very grateful to Dr. Afshari for her exceptional medical care.

I am a patient of Shiley with diabetes and was referred to Dr Afshari for cataract surgery for both eyes. Dr Afshari removed the cataract and planted new lenses. Dr. Afshari performed cataract surgery on both of my eyes. She did an outstanding job! I have 20/20 vision in both eyes, for distance, post surgery, and no complications whatsoever. She took the time to answer all of my questions and explain the whole process related to this surgery and recovery. I took my mom to get cataract surgery with Dr Afshari at Shiley. She has been amazing at her work and more importantly at the human side. She was thorough and diligent in her assessment and gave us a clear plan for my mom's treatment. She discussed options and laid out the pros and cons. I never felt rushed or in a hurry and felt her presence 100% when she spoke. Her follow up and post-op were fantastic. She was personally involved in every clinical aspect of my mom's recovery and relied on her team of doctors to give her input as a complement rather than a substitute for her own exams. She was thorough and meticulous in her assessments while keeping us informed of the state of affairs. The one quality that stood out about her were her people skills and human touch. Dr Afshari stands out for her empathy. You may find other clinically capable doctors but will be hard pressed to find a package of humanity + clinical as Dr Afshari. Settle for nothing less !

I came to Dr. Afshari after 20 years of failing vision due to Fuch's dystrophy in both eyes, as well as worsening cataracts. I was unable to drive at night, and driving during the day was becoming more difficult as I could not read signs. She is kind and compassionate and so patient with my eye anxiety. She guided me through the ups and downs of corneal transplant and cataract surgery and reassured me through it all. I am now seeing things I haven't seen in 20 years, and able to drive again. This past week, I was able to resume lectoring at my church which I have missed greatly. Dr. Afshari is nothing short of a miracle worker. I'm at the six-month checkup point, and I miss her. I can't imaging having this condition and not having Dr. Afshari take care of me. I am truly grateful... Thank you, Dr. Afshari!

This doctor came so highly recommended I had very high expectations. I was not disappointed. She is THE surgeon you want if you have cataracts and the complication of Fuch's. My experience with Dr. Afshari was flawless. Her office staff are personable, professional, kind and caring. The clinical staff at Shiley were all amazing for both procedures, especially the anesthesiologist that Dr. Afshari works with. Dr. Afshari herself is expert at what she does with the added bonus of truly caring about her patients' well-being. She spends a lot of time (in spite of a very busy schedule) to make sure that whatever anxiety you have (either about your surgeries or the current medical crisis involving Covid 19) is addressed and ameliorated. I can't imagine a better outcome. I only wish there were more stars to give.

Dr. Afshari is amazing. In fact, there is nobody better in San Diego! I had cataracts in both eyes and I elected to do the right eye first followed by the left eye several months later. I had LASIK in 2004 which makes the outcome a bit less predictable. Following the surgeries, I am 20/15 in my right eye which Dr. Afshari set for distance and the equivalent in my left eye set for near/reading. I have mono vision and I can read without glasses for the first time in years. Yay!!! Dr. Afshari has magical hands and a warm bedside manner. First of all, the Shiley Eye Institute at UC San Diego is legitimate! After only about a 10-minute wait after checking-in, I was examined by no less than (3) eye specialists that put me through a battery of tests in each of their respective fields. Each doctor was friendly & personable. Once all of the tests and reports were completed, Dr. Afshari met with me to review the findings. She was extremely kind & knowledgeable and gave me her professional opinion for treatment.
