Dr. Mrugesh Soni, MD

My last 3 appointments with Dr.Soni have been rescheduled due to issues at his practice, I now seem to only be able to get an appointment with his PA and I don’t feel comfortable seeing a PA for heart issues. I wouldn’t recommend him to anyone for that reason. His website claims he is “accepting new patients” but he clearly does not have time for his current patients. It is pretty much impossible to get through to the office with a question and I have found his staff to be unfriendly and just plain difficult. When I asked to transfer to the other doctor in his office, as Soni cancelled yet another appointment with me and couldn’t see me for 3 months, I was told “ we don’t do that.” It is a shame that a good doctor is allowing his practice to be run so poorly.

Contrary to the TPMG Patient Portal sign on the office door at the Mary Immaculate Heart and Vascular Center (office #201) NO ONE in the office bothers to read the patient portal. I submitted a Warfarin medication refill request THREE TIMES over TWO WEEKS to Dr. Soni on the TPMG patient portal, and there was NO RESPONSE. Consequently, I ran out of Warfarin and could not get the prescription refilled. Nor could I contact their office by phone - I was constantly placed on hold for over 10 minutes, after which I would hang up. Office staff blamed the so-called 'Medical Assistant' (who requires only a GED and a week's training) for failing to inform Soni of my INR level and for failing to have the Warfarin prescription refilled. Office staff said the assistant was 'terminated'. The ONLY way that I was able to reach Soni was by way of Dr. Patel at the TPMG Lung and Sleep office who phoned Soni on my behalf after Dr. Patel diagnosed me with moderate sleep apnea weeks AFTER I saw Soni.

Would have given 5 stars but the inability of the office staff to obtain a signature from the doctor and copy a few papers is pretty sad.

Would totally agree with that assessment! Dr Soni is wonderful! He is detail oriented, committed to delivering positive results, & most importantly he genuinely cares/ supports his patients! Have been a patient of his for 1.5 years & it has always been a constant struggle to get call backs from his office! Playing phone tag doesn't even begin to describe it! Even when I have come out of the ER have I ever gotten a call from his office inquiring as to how I was doing? NO. But my PCP will call the next business day so what's wrong with this picture? So many times I have left multiple messages with the front desk gal... usually have to leave at least two before there's any hope of someone calling me back. Extremely frustrating to say the least! It's been a constant struggle! To keep all of this in perspective think about this... if it was just about a stomach ache or something else rather benign than maybe it would feel different but this is with my HEART so it scares me... imm

He was nice however his staff does not communicate well at all. The receptionist is sometimes nice at the front which occasionally makes for a pleasant experience at the front. When trying to get results they’re unavailable during the day then his staff calls late in the evening and does not let you know so you get a call at 7 from a number you do not remotely recognize that does not look like the office’s number. You can’t even call them back because you get transferred to the answering service which leads to you playing phone tag which is a huge inconvenience when dealing with a specialist and paying for a specialist .

Diagnosis was thorough and procedure was scheduled quickly, which probably saved my life. Dr Soni and the entire team (both office and surgical) were Efficient, professional and kind.

Excellent doctor. I have been very pleased with my care from Dr. Soni. I find him to be very knowledgeable, professional, and that he truly cares about my health and well being.

Always a pleasure having a down to earth doctor, that you trust with you're life.

Very personable and listen to his patients. Makes eye contact while talking to his patients.

I just moved here and Dr. Soni made me feel at ease and I know I am in good hands.

It’s never a good thing to have to see a Cardiologist, but Dr Soni gives you his full attention. He has done both of my Caths and I trust his expertise. He’s very professional and his staff follow from his example. Thank you Dr Soni.

Dr Soni is a compassionate doctor and very knowledgeable concerning the care of the heart. I would highly recommend him and his office.

This was my first visit with Dr Soni referred by my PCP, he was informative and reviewed my information. Answered any questions I had and was happy that he personally called me to clarify labs. So, far he was great.

Dr Soni is one of the best cardiologist in Newport news he's too good he knows too much he'll get you better he'll let you know if you need surgery or not or what you need to do to take care of, drop the mic

A wonderful cardiologist!!! Very thorough, explains everything in terms that you understand, great bedside manners. Listens to everything you say and makes sure to answer or address everything love this doctor, i would give him 10 plus stars ??

It was on Cinco de Mayo when I went there for my first doctor visit after the COVID started I was a bit apprehensive but the visit was very good. Staff was very friendly and place was good
