Doesn’t listen
Dr. Petri did not hear me out. She explained to me she was a chronic fatigue syndrome expert but advised me numerous times to increase exercises. When my son and I explained to her I have done that already many times and have gotten worse and even became bedridden she dismissed me and still kept insisting exercises. When I mentioned when I crash I am unable to move or speak she said that was not typical with chronic fatigue syndrome. That is very typical in severe chronic fatigue syndrome. She obviously knows nothing. She said she wrote an article about it. I just pray she doesn’t advise her future patients with false information that could harm them and have a worsening of symptoms that could lead to further disability. She was very condescending and kept telling me things I already knew about my orthostatic intolerance, dry eye, hashimotos etc. I went to a major hospital to see if she could help me to sit up or have a better quality of life and she was not helpful in any way.

Does not listen to patients
I saw Dr. Petri hoping she would have insight into treatments for my lupus diagnosis. She did not allow me to discuss most of my medical history (her fellow wrote up a summary based on what I had provided, which she clearly did not read), and cut me off when I tried to describe symptoms like butterfly rash, photosensitivity, etc. and told me I have migraines. She also suggested I try a med that, if she had read my chart, she'd know I have already tried. She was condescending during the appointment and treated me like I was not a person. She also sent a note with inaccurate information to every single one of my doctors (citing herself in the note multiple times with papers from the 80s), so I then had to follow up with each one and explain the misinformation. Very frustrating experience overall.

I have been treated for Lupus by several rheumatologist in 20 years. Though good doctors, Dr Petri is the one I trust. Though not in Maryland now, if I ever get extremely sick, I pray Dr Petri will be available to help me. Dr Petri was always straight forward and allowed time for all my concerns. She was a no frills or giggles doctor and she could come across more as scientist verses bedside. But all patients needing her at their hospital bedside saw a different tone. She was always very caring , both fir you and the family. Dr Petri always provided exceptional care and all forms, notes all in order for whatever needed. I was so depressed when first diagnosed but Dr Petri helped me believe my life would go on and gave me the confidence I needed to move forward. I was blessed and know many share my experience.

I recently saw Dr. Petri for a second opinion, which actually led to a diagnosis change to lupus. She spent a long time with me, explained everything extremely thoroughly, and was very kind. I appreciate how her direct way of speaking left little room for confusion. I'm so grateful that someone like her continues to practice clinically while conduction research that leads to improvements for patients all over the world.

Dr Petri gave me a life. I have 3 beautiful children and have been a nurse for almost twenty years. Without her I wouldn't have either of those things. She safely brought me through my pregnancies and has been with me for twenty years. Some people find her gruff, but she will fight like hell to get her patients what they need. She has given so much to lupus and lupus research. It's a debt that can never be repaid.

Dr. Petri is very knowledgeable about rheumatologic diseases, and can calmly put a patient at ease as it concerns his/her health status and how to manage the condition(s). Overall, I can definitely tell she's been in this field for an extremely long time and she is extremely efficient at ensuring that you are seen as soon as your vital signs are checked! However, I did not give the full 5 stars because she can tend to produce a vibe that is not necessarily rude but can come across as stern.

I like her take charge of your health Attitude. I always look forward to visits with her because she listens and she is genuinely interested in your well being. It would be nice for better office hours but I have no complaints. Her responses to emails still amazes me. Always available.
