Dr. Michael Rawlings, MD

I scheduled a new-patient visit to establish new primary care within IU Health. Rawlings did not appear to have prepped in advance by reviewing my chart with any care. He asked me NO questions about health history, diet, exercise, etc. He didn't even ask the usual get-to-know-you things like 'what do you do for a living?' I told him I had picked him specifically based on his profile, but he didn't appear to care. He did not seem to have any plan for the visit and did not lead the conversation or interact as I'd expect from a PCP establishing a new patient. Worst of all, he did NO physical exam whatsoever other than listening to my heart in one place and taking BP! The only positive I can offer is that he did answer my questions and seemed knowledgeable. But almost everything I brought up, I would have expected him to ask about based on my age and IU Health chart. I had to lead the entire conversation while he just sat there. Overall, this doctor struck me as lazy and interested.

Dr. Rawlings and the IU Health in Mooresville office are excellent. He listened to my concerns and addressed each one one at a time, either giving me advice, medicine, or making referrals for each concern. I didn't wait long to be seen, but my appointment didn't feel rushed at all. I love that the lab is onsite. He's a great GP!

Pros: - Easy to schedule - Limited wait time - Lab + X-Ray on site - Dr. is personable - Dr. performed physical examination - Dr. explained anatomy and why he was ordering different tests/prescribing medications - Dr. readily ordered labs and radiology - Dr. readily prescribed medications Cons: - Made assumptions based on privilege, rather than facts. Assumed prenatal care that didn't exist, assumed medication was for chronic pain when it was for substance abuse disorder, assumed patient had established medical care. - Did not ask direct questions or acknowledge needs outside of his range of social or medical reference. Overall, I think that Dr. Rawlings would be a fantastic doctor if your needs are fairly general. Do not expect for him to think outside of the box, but he will be thorough and caring. In a GP that is pretty excellent.

Very personable and takes time to explain everything. The staff is very nice too. 5 Stars

Dr. Rawlings is a pretty good doctor and his nurse is very good. The issue is with the office staff, although friendly and usually helpful, the "referral" department is lousy, there is no sense of urgency, you have to call them repeatedly to get them working on your referral and sometimes that does not work. Been waiting for about three weeks now and despite promises of action, am still waiting to hear from them. Very disappointed.

Dr. Rawlings is a fantastic doctor. He stands out for the right reasons in a field thats become more about money than patient care. There is little or no wait time which is unheard of in pediatrics.
