Years and years ago, Dr. McKenna irreversibly ruined the hearing in one of my ears. I was only a teenager at the time, so I didn't know any better, but he really should have been sued. I was having a stapendectomy, which is a fairly common and straightforward procedure. In the middle of the surgery, I remember a sharp pain (unlike what I felt during the exact same procedure on my other ear a few years prior). My head jolted, and he yelled at me to stay still. A week after the surgery, he had a lot of difficulty getting the cotton out of my ears because it had hardened with dried blood. As a result of this surgery, I developed a sensorineural hearing loss, which is currently irreversible. I have no doubt it was due to his negligence. As I mentioned, a couple years prior, I had had a Stapedectomy done by another doctor (who subsequently retired), and it was very successful. I guess that doctor just picked a poor successor. I went back to see McKenna a couple times for routine visits - why, I don't know, I was a teenager and at that point I didn't fully comprehend the damage he had done. In any case, he acted like the last person on the face of the earth that he wanted to see was me. I guess he knew what he did too. Needless to say, I do not recommend.
