Stay away! (dr) Martin Kathrins provided me the worst medical experience I have ever had! He was filling in for my Dr. and appeared to be rushed when entering the room. He has 0 bedside manners and when performing the in-office procedure, he was quick and not as cautious as my Dr. was. Now I am left with a permanent issue that HE introduced and Brigham is using a technicality about risks. Risks are real, but risks introduced by Dr's should not be included! My Dr. performed this procedure twice, but (dr) Martin Katherins did it once AND added an additional injection (not routine from my Dr.) that I believe caused this newly introduced issue. I met with the 'patient advocacy' person and they said their INTERNAL REVIEW person said 'you knew the risks' and closed the case. So, here I am alerting every other guy out there to not be impressed by his title as thats all it is... a title. Titles need to be earned and he certainly didn't earn my approval! Be Careful -

DO NOT see Dr. Kathrins. He is the worst urologist of all the time. He is not knowledgable and had prescribed finasteride for my enlarged prostate that was far too large to have any effect. My prostate was 150cc. HOLEP surgery was the best option for this, but because it was not offered at Brigham by Dr. Kathrins, he spoke poorly of the procedure and insisted that robotic assisted prostatectomy was the only way to do it. This was far from the truth. I called MGH and they agreed to do HOLEP without any hesitation or doubts. I am better now no thanks to Dr. Kathrins who prolonged my suffering for months while wearing a catheter. GO TO MGH INSTEAD.

Unprofessional and rushed. But wait! There's more!
I wanted- and tried hard!- to like him. However, he was always rushed and didn't care to listen much. The After Visit summary after my first visit mentioned things that were never mentioned, let alone discussed at all, as he would never be able to exam me the way he said he did, much less discuss the alternatives on a ten-minute appointment. On my second visit, he left me waiting for one whole hour. When he finally did see me, he said that - I kid you not!- that my wait time wasn't that bad for the last slot on a Friday, given that the patient before me liked to talk a lot(!). Uhhhmmm, OK... Despite all this, I still had faith on him. I know, I know. The joke was on me, I guess. The proverbial straw that broke the camel's back, however, was when I arrived twelve (12) minutes late for my third visit (because of a car crash that backed up the traffic on 93 South) and he simply refused to see me. Really? I can wait one hour but he can't wait 15 minutes? What a shame. Never again.

Useless
He was the worst urologist I ever seen in my 23 years. He was submissive and rude. Prescribed me prescriptions without knowledge for months until I showed him a photo of the prescription and his name as prescriber. Always apologizing for his errors. Never got in contact if he rescheduled surgeries, he just changed them without notifying. Could careless about the patient. Did not know his specialty at all. Worst Doctor in my life. Would never refer him to anyone. Staff never reaches out. A total waste of time and effort I put in.

Rushes and could care less
I had many questions. He told me I looked like I didn't have any problems and was dismissive as someone else has already mentioned. I am now looking for a new urologist who actually cares about my well being and not running his time like a deli counter and getting in patients every 15 minutes to bill them. He did not help me with ANY of my issues. Sadly my other urologist retired. I would never recommend him and am looking for someone else.

Poor service
Dr. Martin Kathrins was rude, dismissive of my need to follow up with him, and basically turfed me back to my primary care provider. I would not recommend him at all.

Dr. Kathrins performed a button TURP and removed cysts from my testicle. Upon meeting him I could tell he was the right person for procedures. He had reviewed my history prior to my appointment and carefully listened to everything I had to say. He described both procedures and offered to do them together. It’s now 11 weeks post surgery and I couldn’t be happier with the results. Everything has healed beautifully and is functioning perfectly. Many thanks to Dr. Martin Kathrins!
