Worst Doctor Ever
This doctor doesn't treat his patients with respect. I had an annual physical with him. Several of the test results came back abnormal. Not only did he NOT follow up with me, he acted as if everything was normal from the check up. I had to go over with him on each of the anomalies. I will NOT trust him to take care of me or any of my family member. A complete waste of time

Perfunctory exam
It was the fastest yearly exam that I've ever received. Seem aloof, and didn't seem like he wanted to be there. I would not recommend.

Got to my appointment 15 minutes late and he refused to take me. My train from queens was delayed. I have waited more than 15 minutes to be seen and I never cause a fuss. He is so arrogant and has no manners. The last time I was there he asked me what do I want him to do., I was there gor a follow up after a hospital stay. He will never see me again. My Dr. Of over 25 yrs recommend his big mistake ever.

Worst bedside manner ever. Astoundingly bitter.
Dr. Schaefer seems angry. He was inappropriate with me on two occasions. He is the classic example of a doctor who probably knows his craft but is beyond horrible at executing it. He embarrassed me twice. The first time was in private. He asked me if I wanted a certain STD test. When I said yes, he raised his eyebrows and scoffed then asked if I’d engaged in a certain (safe) act. The second time in his practice’s waiting room. He scolded me for arriving a on the very date HIS office had called me to schedule me for. I’d left work early for this appointment, assuming the doctor knew better. He accused me of being careless about my medication regimen—even though it was unknown to me beside that office administers the medication! I am so offended by him that I will be reporting him to the local medical board.

My first visit
I had to find a new PCP. Dr Schaefer is in my plan so I set up an appointment. He listened to my questions, answered in a way this lay-person understood, and volunteered info. He was polite and professional.

Cannot Recommend Him - One of the Worst
I went to Dr. Schaefer more than 5 times. At first it was due to his availability, but after many times going I can see why he is largely available. He is an odd duck and is very rude, but given how hard it is to see a doctor, I figured its better than waiting 3 months for someone else. He provided me cholesterol medicine to take, then gave me another cholesterol medicine, when I asked why two separate ones, never gave me an answer, then when I saw him the following time he took me off the cholesterol medicine, until I questioned it and then he left it. I just did not have any faith in his ability to actually think of me as a client. Additionally, he forced me to take a COVID test, refused to see me (even though I had no symptoms), and the nurse who did the COVID test, as I told her how rude and bizarre this one only time ever asked at NYU for this, she said she wasn't surprised and I am not the first one to complain about him. Needless to say I can not go back to him.

I had an extremely uncomfortable and disheartening experience. Dr. Schaefer's demeanor during our interaction was deeply troubling. He displayed a complete lack of empathy and professionalism, coming across as a narcissist with a god complex, speaking to his patients as if they were beneath him. I, a Hispanic woman, was made to feel less than, talked down to and had my medical concerns dismissed. No one, regardless of their background, should be subjected to such treatment from a medical professional.

Moody Old Man
Although his staff was very nice, I found him a cold, aloof, moody old man who lost his love for caring for people years ago. After asking to have me come in periodically to check on my vitals, he would come into every appointment asking what I was there for. It was obvious from the emotionless expressions on his face that he was doing you a favor by coming into the room. After about two years, I left. I thought it was me at first and then I just realized I deserved better - far better care.

This is the crappiest doctor that I have seen. Your initial visit starts general test which then lead to 'recommended test' based on his readings. When you come back to follow up on these 2nd test he mentions nothing of 3/4 of the things he's ordered, so something urgent becomes nothing. And if you need a referral to a good specialist, fat chance. No one knows who he is and referrals are never submitted. He also challenges the results of specialist. An odd, awkward and an uncomfortable doctor
