Dr. Joanna Loewenstein, MD

First it is sad that Dr Joanna Loewenstein is leaving Cornell Weill.She is an excellent physician. As a physician myself, I always appreciate that she is on time, a great listener , up to date on the newest journal information and knows what tests should be run and has great follow up. It is rare to feel so much confidence and sincerity from a modern physician today. She is an old soul in a rapidly changing medical world.

Dr. Loewenstein was superb at diagnosing health issues that other doctors missed. She was attentive, thoughtful and patient. I felt like I was important to her. I highly recommend her as a primary care doctor.

She asks questions and listens to the answers. No wait time in the office. Polite and efficient staff

Having been a patient of Dr Lowenstein for a few years and highly recommend her. She is caring, understanding, and explains medical “stuff” so that it is easily understood.

I’ve had the privilege of having Dr. Loewenstein as my Primary Care physician for several years now. I credit her with ordering tests at one point that inadvertently determined that I had prostate cancer! Thanks to her my cancer was eliminated with the efforts of course from another great doctor from Weill Cornell! Highly recommended!

Dr. Loewenstein was dismissive of my symptoms and family medical history, and consequently missed a major diagnosis. When I described multiple symptoms (including bruising) indicating a specific condition as well as a family history of that condition, she said 'lots of people say they bruise easily,' then ignored the other symptoms I described, and carried on. Physicals were always short and rushed.

Dr. Lowenstein is always so welcoming, positive and knowledgeable

She doesn't stay on top of patient's blood work, she forgets to tell patient when blood levels indicate we need a supplement, she forgets about follow-up tests or doesn't follow up to make sure her patients receive important vaccines. A patient under her care has to pay attention to this stuff & stay on top of it & self-advocate. She's friendly to her patients but doesn't follow up- she's either forgetful or too busy. No attention to detail. She accepts my insurance but the care is subpar. If you will need any extra care aside from an annual checkup (most people do at some point) go elsewhere. I feel like just another number with her.

Dr Loewenstein is a breath of fresh air. She listens, explains clearly, and has guided me through tough health situations to fantastic results. That’s why she’s the only internist I’ll go to in NYC.

I don't know what leaves her patients more enamored, her diagnostic brilliance, her kindness and ability to put patients at ease, translate complex medical concepts into plain English, or her passion for medicine and people. I have referred multiple patients to Dr. Loewenstein and we all just LOVE her. She actually has a fan club - and that was before she swept in and saved the life of one of their spouses - who wasn't even a patient. Dr. Loewenstein is simply one of a kind - you want her to be your doctor.

It’s hard to give critical opinion but I think honesty is the best policy for room for improvement. I have had some critical questions regarding my treatment and while Dr. Lowenstein did her job in prescribing and explaining, there has always been some ambiguity and I simply couldn’t get affirmative answers or at least a better clarity. Dr. L was also eager to end sessions which can be quite impolite to some patients (I don’t take advantage of MD’s time btw.) Dr. was late for 11 mins on a 20 mins visit and when Dr showed up there wasn’t an apology or perhaps I forget. The session ended in 9 mins, again in a rush, and I had to pay USD 200 for in network rate. Overall I’d probably find a new md that are more caring and generally have better bedside manner. But I’m grateful for what Dr L did to treat my condition as she is a female doctor and I feel more comfortable disclosing due to my own gender.

Dr. Lowenstein is one of the best physicians I have ever been to. She is highly knowledgeable, listens, explains clearly and is up to date on the most current treatments. I would most definitely recommend her & am fortunate to have an internist I can count on.

Dr. Loewenstein has been my primary care physician for several years! She is a great doctor; very professional, knowledgeable and compassionate. The office staff and nurses are always welcoming and friendly. I highly recommend her and thank her staff on the UES for always being so professional and courteous.
