Do not recommend
I did not go to Dr. Roberts for cochlear implants. I have ongoing sinus issues and was seeking information (on referral from my primary care physician) from an "expert" as to the cause. I had already confirmed that it was not due to allergies. Dr. Roberts was not interested in helping me or listening to me. He prescribed an over-the-counter pill to take at extreme dosage and sent me away. I suggested a thyroid test as I was also having relevant symptoms which may be related to the problem. He begrudgingly agreed to this but when it came back negative, as I suspected it would, he did not even have the professionalism to speak to me about it. I cancelled my follow-up appointment and will seek an alternative ENT doctor with a better, more professional and caring manner.

I saw Dr Roberts today and was very impressed. He was thorough, friendly, knowledgeable and discussed my issues with options for my concern. He took time to listen to my concerns and I had ample time to discuss my issues without feeling rushed. As a retired RN, I found him to be excellent. I would return to him if needed. Everyone I encountered at the office was friendly and efficient. The office was clean with precautionary measures in place to prevent infection which is important to me. Scheduling was not an issue.

Dr. Roberts is incompetent
If you have a child with special needs DO NOT GO HERE! Dr. Roberts should not be claiming he is a special needs pediatric ENT. He is completely incompetent. We had heard from another family he was incompetent and they had issues too. We should have listened to them. Please take this review serious. Our son was born January 2021. He missed that my son's submucous palate wasn't closed all the way after performing an internal scope of his mouth and throat as well as seeing him outpatient several times. My son was experiencing feeding issues and reflux. Dr. Roberts kept claiming it was a GI issue and told us to go there. We went for a second opinion at Wake-Forest in November 2021. The ENT and craniofacial surgeon there looked in his mouth for less than 30 seconds and found out it was still open. My son also has laryngomalacia which Dr.Roberts did diagnose. He was turning blue in his car seat and Roberts said okay. The ENT at Wake was shocked intervention wasn't done to relieve it.

I want to advise extreme caution if you are considering going to Asheville Ear, Nose, and Throat. My wife is profoundly deaf and she went to this practice to discuss getting a cochlear implant. Admittedly, during the process she did miss too many appointments but there are other reasons for that. Based on that Dr. Roberts would not do the operation for her. We spoke with them and committed to all future appointments. She was given hearing aids and liked the concept but not the sound. The Audiologist, Dr. Benson, said she would adjust the hearing aid at our last appointment with no interpreter. We gave them the hearing aids but did not hear from them for several weeks. Then we get a phone call from Dr. Benson stating that she talked with Dr. Roberts and my wife was persona non grata (no longer welcome). The next closest practitioner was 200 miles away. They blamed communication issues (with a deaf women) as the cause. Beware, this could be you next.

I had a Cochlear Implant from De. Roberts three years ago. From start to finish everything was excellent. He is very caring of his patients and I might add I did not have any problems at all from the surgery! I will be going bi lateral in e near future & Dr.Roberts will be my physician of choice!

My 14 year old daughter had her tonsils and adenoids removed by Dr Roberts six days ago. The surgery itself went well. However, for the past three days, I have called the on call physician to let them know my daughter has been running a high fever (103-104) I was blown off and told she probably had a virus. Today she became short of breath, and still had a fever, so I called the office practically begging for a chest X-ray. I was told no and I should call her pediatrician if I felt she needed to be seen. So I did. And now we are in the pediatric unit at the hospital because she has pneumonia. This is medical negligence, and I will never step foot back in the office. I also plan to tell everyone I know about how my child has been treated. By the way, I am a nurse with 20+ years experience and I can say, with confidence, I’ve never had a physician treat one of my patients like this.

Dr Roberts and his staff were stellar! I took my 3 year old in for a consult. The staff was friendly and professional. The office was clean and while it's not a pediatric office all of the staff went out of their way to make sure my kiddo was happy and engaged in treatment.

I was incredibly disappointed by my experience with Dr. Roberts. My greatest complaint is his poor bedside manner. He didn't seem interested in what I had to say, didn't ask me which specific treatments I had tried, and lacked much eye contact. Disengaged. I felt like a task to be completed rather than a patient. He gave me a diagnosis and a prescription. I don't recall him even asking if I had any questions. He said Thanks for coming in, while turning his back to leave. All for $640.
