I’m very happy with the results of my hip replacement done by Dr. James Ryan and his team. It took me 2 years of therapy & cortisone shots to make my decision to consider hip replacement. Was referred by Dr. Graham in Corvallis,Or. . Met with Dr. Ryan he explained the procedure to me straight up no dancing around liked what I heard and decided this is the Dr. for me. He’s very meticulous about his work. Aims to make his patients better. I’m so very happy and grateful for his expertise. I recommend him with high regard. You won’t be sorry for seeing this Surgeon, Believe me just follow his instructions and you’ll be quite pleased with the results.

My 1st visit was a consultation for full hip replacement. I left with an understanding of the process and a scheduled surgery date. All went as planned and the required educational session was very helpful. His office lined up my physical therapy appointments, etc

He replaced my right knee. He was extremely competent and knowledgeable; his entire staff exceeded any expectations I might have had. Six months later it was like I had a brand new leg. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Ryan and his staff.

Dr. Ryan took time to throughly examine me and listen to my description of my pain. Along with that and looking at X-rays he was able to give me a diagnosis that I failed to get with previous doctors. I have since had a full hip replacement and am so happy to report the pain is gone and I am well on my way to being back to a full active lifestyle. In addition to highly recommending Dr. Ryan his entire staff is very competent, friendly and professional.

Dr. Ryan is en exceptional surgeon, and he has worked tirelessly to increase the skill and knowledge of not only his staff but the also for the care providers in our local hospital. He is very thorough, provides great information from both his office and through a patient introduction class to joint surgery.

Dr. Ryan replaced my left knee October 2018 then replaced my right knee September 2019. Both experiences from the check-in, to the prep, to the surgery, to the overnight hospital stay, to rehab were all excellent. Every person involved treated me very well. Dr. Ryan and his P.A. had to take a broken off screw out of my left leg -from a plate from a surgery by another doctor years earlier - and then straighten my leg. I cannot express my gratitude enough! Both knees are doing GREAT and I have my life back.

Thanks to Dr. Ryan I am now able to walk without pain after an accident 13 years ago. Before the hip replacement, the procedure, different options and what to expect were thoroughly explained. He spent time answering questions and informing of expectations. Each time I saw him, he asked...do you have any questions for me? I not only saw him before the surgery but twice while I was in the hospital. I received an information packet explaining the timeline and a list of things I would need after surgery. All the necessary tests were set up by his office. I thoroughly researched surgeons for hip replacement and he was the favored one by far. I, along with the many others would highly recommend him

Dr. Ryan and his team performed total knee replacement surgery 3 weeks ago. From Dr. Ryan to his PA Eric Moen to his nurse Keri and his entire team was a fabulous experience. And the nurses in the surgery center and the nurses at Albany General Hospital they were exceptional. Thank you to everyone.

I am an active 70+ year old male that is still active in sports. My right hip was bone on bone and produced quite a bit of pain. Dr. Ryan provided a balanced view of surgical and non surgical alternatives. Compared to my previous back and knee surgeries at Portland hospitals, Dr. Ryan and his staff were much more engaging and informative. The results of my hip surgery significantly exceeded my expectations. The trauma to my muscle structure in particular was lower than anticipated, resulting in a relatively short rehabilitation period. I highly recommend Dr. Ryan and his staff for their professionalism, great patient communication and follow-up concern for my health. The glowing reports from some of my friends that were treated by Dr. Ryan and his staff were certainly justified. Add my name to the list.

From my initial visit to my follow-up visits, Dr. Ryan was personally involved in my knee replacement surgery. The surgery was quite successful. Dr. Ryan met with me for my initial consultation. After setting surgery details with his competent and friendly staff, he called me personally on the day before surgery to set my arrival time. He checked in with me on the morning after surgery to answer any questions I had regarding my home care and recovery. Finally, he checked in on my first follow-up visit to make sure my recovery was going okay. He and his staff were helpful and pleasant during every meeting I had with them. Dr. Ryan, his P.A. Eric Moen, and I were all very pleased with the surgery results and recovery. The Albany Hospital Surgery Center, where the surgery was actually performed, is well staffed with capable, friendly, and helpful nurses, aides, and other members. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Ryan to anyone who seeks a positive joint replacement experience.

Dr. James Ryan is an exceptional Orthepedic Surgeon, caring, intelligent the best Dr. James Ryan and his staff far exceeded my expectations in terminating my debilitating hip and knee pain. I had both hips replaced in 2016 and no knee surgery. I do not have pain in my hips nor my knees. Thank you Dr. James Ryan.

I'm so thankful for Dr Ryan and his calm demeanor and showing me that my previous diagnosis of a total knee replacement was incorrect. He did a partial knee replacement for me and it's turned out perfect. I've been limping for so long after one botched surgery that I'd almost forgotten how to walk. Dr. Ryan is a champion , what would I have done with him! I could cry thinking about it. When you meet him you'll see like I did that he really cares. It's only been a few weeks since my surgery and I can already stand on my new knee. He showed me my x-rays and even I could tell he was right about his diagnosis. My recent care from Dr. Ryan and his team was excellent, caring, professional and has given me a new focus other than the chronic arthritic pain I had in my hip prior to total hip replacement surgery. The preparation before surgery, the smooth surgery process and after care---- all contributed to a very positive healthcare experience!

This is the second hip replacement surgery that Dr. Ryan has performed on me. The first hip 3 years ago is still doing great and this last one has been very successful. Dr. Ryan has excellent bedside manners, very professional, and takes the time needed to explain and answer all questions. Both in the office and at the hospital. While living in Corvallis I have had surgeries at 3 different hospitals. Albany hospital was excellent in every way. From admission to discharge and the daily post-op care. I am very pleased!

Dr. Ryan has replaced both my left hip and right knee. Both surgeries were highly successful. The differences between my surgical joints and natural joints are nearly imperceptible. I'll not say that the experiences were pleasurable. In fact, following the pre and post surgical instructions are a fair bit of work. But that work is key. In my opinion, paying heed to Dr. Ryan and his team's guidance makes for a much more predictable and positive outcome. It is hard to imagine that there are any shortcuts. We are fortunate to have Dr. Ryan and his team serving our community.

As busy as most surgeons are, it is truly rare to find one that always takes the time to fully inform his patients with what to expect and how things will be done - in layman's terms. Always available to answer all questions. Stopped in to personally chat when appointments were with his staff to ensure I was satisfied with the service.

Dr. Ryan and the team at Samaritan Orthopedics replaced my left hip in late December, 2019. The whole experience, from intake to post recovery, was extremely well organized, thorough, and professional. Pre-operative education was excellent. Hospital admission and the whole surgical experience was outstanding. I spent only 1 night in the hospital as expected and post surgical pain was minimal and well controlled. Recovery was speedy and I was very pleased with how soon I could walk unassisted and begin physical therapy. I highly recommend Dr. Ryan and his team for join replacement surgery.

I've had 2 successful knee replacements by Dr. Ryan, and would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone. He takes the time to answer all questions (for myself and my spouse), and is very professional...but not in a stiff way. His staff is also very good. Better than I could have imagined.
