Dr. James Fernandez, MD

Dr. Fernandez has been my immunologist for several years now. He’s great with appointments and is very good with handling individual concerns and finding what works for Me. I also appreciate that he actually seems to read my chart in advance of appointments, which is a pleasant change of pace in a busy hospital environment. He’s usually ready and prepared with questions about injuries or other medical issues I had between visits at the outset. My biggest issue is not so much with him, but with the “office management” side of things. If Fernandez asks me to send him a message to follow up on a topic, 9/10 times his office will redirect my message to his PA (who is terrible with immunology, she’s great with allergy issues, but I cannot trust her with any immunology questions) who responds with a one word answer and likely will never pass along the message to Fernandez. It’s as if there’s zero communication on that side of things. Great in person visits, difficult communication

Dr Fernandez is thorough, concern is sincere, he listens, he includes you as part of the team so as he asks and suggests ways to treat illness. My only "however" thought is that he does not respond to my chart emails and I don't think his staff gives him the messages. I have to go through my primary care doctor to get messages to him.
