Outstanding result for a terrible injury
I had an exceptional result from Dr Debritz and his team. I know every injury is unique as is every outcome. Mine was better than most who suffer a Pilon fracture (a crushing/splintering of tibia, fibula and high impact fracture of the ankle). It was a rough recovery. I was in a wheelchair for nearly 5 months and full recovery was probably 18 mos of hard and consistent work with a physical therapist and personal trainer. I’m not young (in my 50s and was obese at the time I was hit head on by a drunk driver). At three years post surgery by Dr Debritz, I ran a half marathon. Other than a slight problem with my ankle mobility that results in only minor limitations, my general health and well being are amazing considering the amount of damage sustained. I am forever grateful to this doctor, his team, and the amazing nurses and aids who looked after me at GW. I would highly recommend. He’s a busy doctor so if you see him in his office, be prepared to wait. He is dealing with trauma patients

Dr. Debritz is my superhero. I was in a car accident in which my knee slammed the dashboard, shattering my acetabulum into around 13 pieces. Dr. Debritz repaired it, and when he was through he took an X-ray to check the work he had done. He didn’t think he had done a good enough job so he brought me back in before I had woken from the first surgery and re-did the procedure. In the middle of all this he callled my wife, my boss and my mom to let them know what was going on. The first time he talked to me after the surgery he explained in detail what my injury was, what he saw in my injury, the level of damage, and my prognosis for recovery. He chose to repair my hip instead of giving me a fake metal one because I was only in my late 30s and a human can only receive two hip replacements in their life at the time he did the surgery. He gave 90% chance of 10 years on this hip before I needed a replacement. It’s now been 14 and I still feel good. I love this guy, he’s the best Doc I’ve had.

Dr. Debritz repaired my fractured tibia and fibula. My experience with him and his staff have been never been stellar! I would highly recommend him. He is aggressive with treatment and recovery and is very honest.

He didn't bother to look at my x-rays, Catscan, or MRIs, and kept on taking about a type of screw in my body that l don't have. He kept on looking questioningly at the resident physician training with him every time l corrected him on the hardware. The resident had obviously looked at the imaging for him and given him the wrong information.  He belittled me for the number of surgeries I've had to try to fix my issue. Really? In short, he failed to listen to me, failed to inquire about my original injury which remains the cause of problems, failed to review imaging, and he ridiculed me for not knowing the strength of a pain medicine l occasionally take. I will save you time. Don't bother. I've visited several other trauma physicians for my issue.  Several at much better hospitals, and they have at least listened, reviewed my imaging, and informed me of their thoughts politely. I teared up on the way home. Go elsewhere. On the other hand his assistant Nese was very nice.

He performed surgery on a broken femur. When a screw came loose 6 weeks later, he wouldn't see me in his office on an emergency basis and told me to go to the emergency room and come in on my regularly scheduled time a week later. Spent an entire day in the emergency room only to be told a screw was loose. Then had second surgery to take it out. Three years later, the rod is causing problems. Wouldn't recommend.

Dr. Debritz not only performed an emergency hip replacement on my wife, but took time to carefully explain to us both before and after the operation what the expect and what happened. He wasn't only a skilled surgeon but also a very caring person.
