I went to see Dr. Sam's for a knee replacement. X-rays showed severe issues and said I needed a replacement and even though my BMI was high he wasn't concerned about that rather he wanted to run a complete metabolical panel to see if I would heal well. He said if the blood tests came back normal he would do the surgery. The Kirby orthopedic nurse practioner was also in the room. He said that we should get a EKG, chest X-ray, mrsa test, 6 ft. leg x-ray, cbc panel, x-rays of Ortho PT INR, and Ortho PTT in addition to the metabolic panel and other blood tests. The next day the nurse called me and said my blood work and other tests were all normal but they would not do the surgery because my BMI was too high. I understand they can turn high risk people away but why did he order all those tests that I am responsible for when he knew the hospital anesthesiologist wouldn't ok the surgery. Sounds like a money maker for Kirby.

A second knee surgery was necessary was necessary due to infection. It was apparent that the knee was infected since it was “weeping” and sore. Visiting nurses we’re sending pictures of my knee to his office but never got a response. After my knee was shown to my physical therapist she immediately called to report my condition. A second surgery was performed and the infection continued. I was referred to Dr Modi. He also was negligent. I finally saw Dr. Manneganti and after 30 infusions my knee is healed. Dr Kafelas’s also assisted by Draining my knee several times.

I went to see Dr. Sams for a severe pain in my knee that ran all the way down my leg. I was rushed to X-rays. Dr. Sams said your bones are good and then he raised my leg and said “I want to see more muscle.” So he wanted me to go to physical therapy (remember I went in for severe pain in my knee). He gave me an injection and his nurse tried to get Dr. Sams to read my chart. He gave me a cortisone injection and am highly allergic to cortisone. I called the office later and the girl told me that he treats all patients like me the same. I am retired. Dr. Sams maybe said ten words to me. Dr. Sams didn’t really care about me he was just trying to get rid of me as soon as he could. If Dr. Sams had really cared he would have done an ultrasound on my knee-but hey he just wanted to see more muscle in the lower half of my leg. I am still in a lot of pain but as Dr. Sams being a specialist I could not believe his response.

After he did a hip replacement 18 months ago, I have permanent nerve damage. At my 4-week follow-up appt. with him, he dodged questions about what happened; blamed the problem on the spinal anesthetic, and became very belligerent when I asked more questions. Told me there was nothing more to be done, that he was "dismissing" me as a patient, and not to call him again. I'll gladly oblige....wouldn't consider seeing him again. Have since learned that this is a pattern with him....everything is fine, as long as there's no problem. If there is, he doesn't want to see the patient any more.

I was treated by Dr Sams in ER after falling and breaking my shoulder in December 2019. . He released me without properly setting shoulder in sling. I had to have emergency surgery by orthopedic surgeon in Springfield to repair gross negligence 10 days later. Would never recommend Dr Sams.

Dr. Sams was interested only in getting me in/out in 5 min. or less. One of my visits with him lasted about only 5 minutes and he left to go to another patient. He became visibly upset with me when I asked that he return so that I could ask questions. His treatments with me where limited to steroid shots only, but after 9 months, he did order an MRI. After MRI results received, he referred me to someone else stating my case was too complicated for him. Would not go back to him.

Dr. Sams replaced both of my dad's hips and he is finally able to enjoy life and run around and play with his grandkids! Dr. Sams has also treated my mom for some orthopedic issues. Our family is safe in knowing that any orthopedic concerns are in good hands!

Dr. Jacob Sam's is special doctor,I had total joint knee replacement, Dr. Sam's has the best bed side manner, I was told, why, when, and what to expect after surgery, Dr Sam's told me that he was old school and he worked me for not the insurance companies how rare is that! DR. Sam's told me I would be able to walk at home after total replacement and even going home the same day surgery, how refreshing is that to have anyone make a statement and all came through, I felt that I mattered and I would recommend this Dr to anyone who is facing a problem with any joint to stop looking because you won't find a better physician with this much heart before surgery, at surgery, and going home does not end here, the care follows you until the day your released form his care, his staff is out of this world, 5 stars all the way.

I received poor medical advice from Dr. Jacob Sams for a meniscus injury I incurred in 2017. Though I was at a point at which I could barely walk, he said I wouldn't benefit from surgery, and that there was nothing he could do to help me. Health Alliance allowed me to get a second opinion. Dr. Gertler at Carle Sports Medicine recommended surgery. Six weeks after surgery, I regained full mobility and was back to swimming and cycling five days a week. I am fortunate I didn't reply upon Dr. Sam's.
