I first met Dr. Edmundson in 2015 and I was a patient for years. I am so thankful Dr. Edmundson worked with me to diagnose and treat a problem I have been having since my 20’s. A while back we moved out of state. Earlier this year we decided to move back to the Houston area. One of the reasons was Dr. Edmundson. He is a testament to how valuable compassionate and thorough medical care can be! Also, I have found his staff to also be as supportive as you can be. Unable to say that for everywhere I have been.

It is not my goal to continue a fight that is already over but people considering this practice should be aware of our experience. I went to Dr. Edmondson on a friend’s advice. She likes him and says he gave her good care. There are clearly people for whom he is a good match. But it was not so for me. Both the doctor and the staff are from the “shut up and do what we tell you if you want to get well” school of medical care. Any time I asked why a procedure or a rule was the way it was, the only answer was “because that’s how we do it.” Again, this approach is good for some patients—it can be reassuring to some—but understanding the reasons for rules and actions is necessary for me. It was made clear to me on my first visit that if I did not wish to follow every policy without question that I was welcome to find a different doctor. It was my fault for not taking his advice at that moment and walking out the door. Instead I completed that visit and one more which was a waste of my time and his. Because I pushed back against the “do what we say without question” reasoning, I was told that I was hostile. Because I refused to sign paperwork giving them permission to bill my credit card a service fee each time I got a refill, I was again told how hostile I was. Because I insisted that some of the data they collected was wrong (long story) I was asked not to return. Clearly we were not a good match.

Really long wait times
This is the 2nd year in a row I’ve come in for the “20 minute” obligatory appointment to get my medication refills for the next 12 months and have had over an hour wait in the waiting room. If that was t enough there’s another 45 minute wait once you’re called into the back. Terrible time management and lack of respect for patients time. I’ll be finding another neurologist.

Doctor is fine, office staff is unresponsive
Dr. Edmundson may be a little quirky but is does thorough diagnosis. Our struggle is with the office staff returning calls or hiding behind the 'portal' to be unresponsive and not reactive. Our son has been trying to get his meds refilled and there is a shortage so the pharmacy could not refill. The office will only send electronic prescriptions so we asked them for an alternative med, they actually suggested we has the pharmacy for a suggestion of the meds...the pharmacy that does not have our son's diagnosis or his health records should provide a recommendation?????

Snowflakes, this Dr is not for you.
I went with my 19 y/o daughter fully expecting to (because I’m mom and my daughter “needed” me) go back with her. NO! My child LOVES the Dr. She explained to me that he is direct, has a dry sense of humor but he wants to get to the root of the issue. This was her first appointment and we were not informed of what might occur during the exam, appointment. Long story short… pack your patience because the Dr allows time for each patient/their testing and questions. We were there for over 3 hours. Yes… he does run behind BUT he told my daughter that at the end of this appointment so that she could prepare for her next visits. Perhaps they need to reconsider their 15 minute policy regarding tardiness. Personally, knowing this now, we will take work/etc to focus on during the wait. The office staff was polite (the mask policy is a bit assassin) but if that is what the Dr requires then so be it. I will be making my initial appointment soon.

Outstanding service
New patient for Dr. Edmundson. He was thorough, knowledgeable, kind, professional. The wait may be longer than you would like but he takes extra time to get complete information, communicates well, and to get proper diagnosis and treatment.

NOPE!! I made an appointment for my 79 year old mom to see Dr. Edmundson, at the time the appointment was made, the insurance was verified and approved. We arrived a few minutes early, it was our first time seeing this doctor so I filled out all the necessary paperwork. After about an hour, they called me to the window explaining that the doctor had several new patients and that he was running behind, I asked about how much longer it would be, they said about 45 more minutes. I told them I would go ahead and wait, she suggested that if I changed my mind and decided to reschedule, to let them know. We waited over two months for this appointment, so we decided to just wait. About 45 minutes later, they called me to the window again, this time to tell me that because my mother has previously seen a neurologist, she can not see Dr. Edmundson because they wouldn't be able to bill the insurance. I explained that the insurance already approved the visit, and we were coming in for a second opinion. a few minutes later the "office manager" came to talk to me. She told me the same thing, which was a blatant lie. Insurance will cover you to see a second specialist, in the same filed, for a second opinion. I explained to her that she was literally holding the approval in her hand. I could have called the insurance company to talk to the office staff to correct them, but by this point we had been waiting for over 2 hours, my mother is elderly and she was tired, so I just asked them to return all of our paperwork, and we left. This was the biggest inconsideration of a person's time I have ever experienced. I have no idea why they decided last minute, not to take us. But the insurance story was a lie. Sure enough, when I got in the car, I called the insurance company, and just like I suspected, they said that we were approved for that visit, and it was incorrect information that we could not see two neurologist simultaneously. Based on the reviews I have read since my attempted visit, I am so relieved we never made it into the exam room, the consistent review is that he is arrogant and rude. The front desk staff is the most unprofessional I have ever seen, and they are liars. If the insurance "story" were true, that would have been caught early on during the approval process. Houston has so many qualified neurologist, no need to put up with this. One thing I noticed in the reviews, the office responds to all the good reviews, but totally ignores the bad ones. That horrible customer service.

Great specialist, works with you
I've been seeing Dr. Edmundson since around 2013, and I can say for certain that he's a compassionate and knowledgeable doctor. He frequently asks about my state of mental health in relation to the medications he prescribes me and is respectful and non-judgmental in both his analysis and questioning. Dr. Edmundson is also flexible and tries to work with my situation re. appointments. Some reviews say that they did not like his demeanor or opinions, but as a medical professional, it's his job to ask questions and offer an educated and professional opinion, which at times may not align with the patient's views; in my experience, he has never crossed the line and is always helpful. As for the timeliness of his appointments, there are often lengthy waits, but I wouldn't necessarily attribute that to malice as other reviewers have. Sometimes a string of late patients can progressively delay later appointments. In any case, I've always gotten my time with Dr. Edmunson and never felt rushed.

Unhelpful and Rude
I scheduled one of the first visits of the morning, but the day before was confused if it was 8:15 or 8:30. The hours are not listed on the website so I called. The phone system says they open at 8:30. I also left a message to confirm my copay would be $50, which I have a voicemail of them confirming. I was running 5 minutes late, so I arrived at 8:35ish. First, my copay was going to be just under $300. I was shocked to hear this after confirming. Second, my appointment was for 8:15 and they had a 15 minutes late policy which I was over. So they said I could wait and they would try to squeeze me in. I waited for 45 minutes and was brought back to a room where the nurse took my vitals. I was then brought back out to the waiting room. 30 minutes later I was told there wasn't room for me today. I am so upset by how the whole thing was handled and I saw the Dr. for a brief second when he told me "no we actually open at 8:00". The entire staff was rude and dismissive. Avoid at all costs.

I've been a patient of Dr. Edmundson since December 2012. He is truly the most compassionate and validating medical doctor that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I have referred many friends, colleagues and family members to Dr. Edmundson for care over the years, including my father and brother, and not one them has had a negative experience.

I had an appoint with Dr. Edmundson and I can see how his style might be misinterpreted as abrupt but that is not what is going on in the appointments. The rapid-fire questions are part of the test for neurological issues. Remember cognitive processing issues must be tested by some manner. The direct manner of getting back to the point is time efficient and utilitarian by nature. I believe he is very bright and competent. I think he did a good job.

No phone or any ext. is ever answered In this office in over a month! This doctor ordered several tests but they have to be approved by my Medicare Advantage Plan who have called his authorization girl at least 6 times to have them faxed. I have also called and left msgs about 12-15 times. Stay away! This MD is extremely arrogant and impersonal. I left all my medical records (and discs) for them to copy and return to me on my visit, taking many trips to gather all this. A total waste. They couldn’t find them after 2 hours.

My ENT Specialist ordered an MRI about a year ago to search only for a possible brain tumor. Dr Edmundson says the MRI is cardiologist related when there was no cardiologist involved!!! I can’t believe he’d tell his nurse this! During Covid 2020 I sheltered in place so avoided unnecessary office visits.

I would not recommend Dr. Edmundson. He doesn't keep his appointments and has no respect for the patient time. He is at least and hour or more late ever time we had an appointment. He is very arrogant and not the least bit concerned that he inconvenienced his patient. I found out later after seeing another Dr. that he had prescribed an extremely strong dose of adderall and then wanted to blame my son for not taking it properly when his stomach couldn't tolerate the dosage.

Wonderful experience! I have been his patient for 10 years. Two of my children have seen him for over five years. Is he warm and fuzzy? No. Does he ask more pointed and direct questions than other doctors I have seen? Yes. Does he quickly redirect me when I started answering his questions in a roundabout way? Yes. Did he correctly diagnose and treat a condition that had plagued my life for years and that several other doctors misdiagnosed? Yes. If you want someone to hold your hand and say, “There, there, it will be alright.”, don’t show up. If you want someone who will take his time, not accept excuses, and diligently search for the best treatment, Dr. Edmundson is your guy.

STOP! Do not use this emotionally abusive doctor. One other reviewer hit the nail on the head with his/her list of adjectives. Here it is again. I am copying it because it is the most accurate list. "Negative Experience! Adjectives that come to mind re Dr Herbert Edmundson: rude, uncaring, cold, abrupt, unprofessional, offensive, condescending, impolite, bully, arrogant, ill-mannered, lacking in self-awareness, egotistical, inept Spoke rudely to my daughter and would not allow me, her mother to speak! Did not ask for details, made erroneous assumptions, judged another dr as being inept without getting any info. Made my daughter cry during his exam/interrogation. Needs to be investigated!!!"

Horrible experience. Took my recently turned 18 year old in and was told it was the doctor’s policy to only have one person in the room. Typically people take a second person into appointment to ensure all the information is received and questions asked. Apparently the risk of others hearing or seeing the actions is a big risk. After sitting there for 2 hours, I went to speak with receptionist about being allowed back in to hear what the doctor had to say but she was asleep at the window. Wished I would of read the reviews first instead of getting a referral from primary care provider. Prior to turning in the new patient forms we made sure the release of information had me authorized. Buyer beware. I honestly want to find a way to cancel the copay.
