A great experience
The staff was friendly and professional and prompt, as was Dr. Middleton. He explained my diagnosis and asked if I had any questions, which he answered completely. I never felt rushed. I had a terrible experience with another practitioner with hip and knee injections, but Dr. Middleton is an artist! Both injections were pain free except for the tiniest pinch of the needle. My pain level has reduced over the following few days and as I return to my fitness activities, I cannot believe how good I feel! I recommend Dr. Middleton without reservation!

Poor Communication Skills
Dr. Middleton did not provide information about my diagnosis or any treatment options. I was referred to him after a 2nd incidence within 4 months that indicated rheumatoid arthritis or another auto-immune disease. In addition, I was experiencing significant body pain. It was only a few months after when I was reviewing MyChart that I saw he indicated Fibromyalgia. But he offered no recommendations when I saw him except 'consistent exercise'. I felt disregarded. He is definitely not up to the UCSD standard.

This doctor is a disaster and UCSD knows it. I went to PT session in UCSD and they even know that Dr. Middleton does NOT know what he is talking about. He doesn't care about his patients at all. I went in with a shoulder injury and he didn't even ask me to make one arm movement NOTHING. Please do not ever go to this doctor.

Very Good Appointment!
I saw Dr. Middleton for chronic shoulder pain and I had a very good experience with him. He was on-time, if not ahead of schedule, asked questions, did an exam and gave me my options. One was a cortisone shot, which I had had before I remarked on how extremely painful it was, along with the "cortisone flare" I had experienced afterward. He said he thought my experience this time with him would be much different and thank goodness, it was! Just the slightest pinch at injection and no cortisone flare - yay!!! Based on this experience, I will definitely see him again and would recommend him to others.

Terrible. He made an instant diagnosis of my condition without listening to me. He manifests the signs of burn out. My condition only became worse after my consult with this doctor. One of the worst MDs that I have seen. I cannot recommend him.

Had an appt with Dr. Middleton and he ordered xrays without even talking to me first. I had an emergency while talking to his intern and after waiting an hour. I was gone ten minutes and he wouldn’t see me when I returned. I Was told said he had another appt and wanted to leave by 5. Koman is not a convenient building to have an appt. at and when I returned and was waiting for help out, I saw him sneak down the staircase. That was ten minutes later. No compassion for someone who was having trouble walking and standing after a long trip to see him. Let the Curt receptionist do the dirty work too of telling me. Waste of time and money!! No compassion. I will go elsewhere now.

If there was a half of star I would give. I went to see Dr. Middleton in February 2019. He was very dry and offered no real long-term advice on managing my osteoarthritis. I would not recommend him to anyone. He was not helpful at all.

Nice guy. Professional demeanor. Listens carefully, but never has any useful advice on how to get healthier. Saw twice. Explained to him how PCP's meds had odd side effects. He said they we caused by underlying condition - WRONG! Said very helpful cortisone shots given by pain mgmt specialist were only offering temporary relief, yet he offered nothing beyond lengthy physical therapy, which wasn't helping after 15 sessions. He treated me like I was a test subject. Won't be returning.
