Dr. Gerard Girasole, MD

At age of 78 and only able to walk 50 steps at time a spinal fusion was recommended to correct severer spinal sorosis. Dr Girasole fused 11 vertebra from S1 to L7 to streighten out my spine and relieve pressure on my nerves. The operation was a success and recovery is going well.

Dr Girasole is a highly skilled orthopedic surgeon . He along with the neurosurgeon Dr Mintz , who is also highly skilled , make a great team and I highly recommend them. The office staff and St Vincent’s Hospital made me feel very comfortable and were very professional . St Vincent’s Hospital and Dr Girasole use the newest technology in the field which made my decision to have surgery much easier . Although initially , I was very hesitant to have lumbar fusion surgery, my experience was a good one and much better than I anticipated . My pre op preparation and home recuperation were made more manageable with the use of the “Force App “ along with detailed information given on what to expect at every turn . I was walking the same day of the surgery. At 3 months post op I am back to my active lifestyle.The pain medications prescribed were carefully balanced to avoid pain while notoverly medicating me so I could not function . Dr Gerisole is an amazing doctor and person. His personal attention is so refreshing and helpful making you feel safe and taken care of. His staff at his office and the hospital are also wonderful. I have had 2 surgeries with him and they both turned out great. I'm very happy with my results.

After years of pain and trying every other possible treatment I met with Dr. Girasole. He recommended a laminectomy with spinal fusion of L4-L5. I had the operation at St. Vincent in late February 2024. Dr. Girasole , Dr. Mintz and their team explained everything to me prior to surgery . Within two weeks after surgery I was walking and driving with no pain. After four months of prescribed physical therapy I played golf for first time in a decade without pain. Dr. Girasole is a brilliant surgeon.

Dr. Girasole was amazing. He was very upfront and really went into detail about what was going on with me. Other doctors have not showed me that much consideration. I often feel like surgeons just want to cut and get paid but Dr. Girasole was not like that. I highly recommend him as a doctor.

Always there to walk you through things

Dr. Girasole was the 3rd doctor who I consulted after getting an MRI showing a bulging disc in my lower spine. The other two were like 'its a significant bulged disc but try physical therapy for three months and come back'. But with constant pins in needles in my left leg for over a year I was done waiting; it took long enough for someone take me seriously about needing an MRI that I was frustrated with having to wait to address what we found! Dr. Girasole saw me with my 2 young kids and my High BMI & was straight forward but understanding. He told that a back surgery with a 3 mon & 3 yr old at home & a high BMI would be a challenge; but understood so would being limited in motion due to my leg pain. He took me seriously & explained how his approach would be more aggressive than what the other doctors recommended considering the size of the bulging disc and my high BMI. I went in eyes wide open and was thrilled with the outcome. I felt supported before, during, and after the surgery.

Performed cervical fusion. after six months. I feel great. I have no issues with my back or neck no pains I’m back to playing sports at age 46. I think that’s a great thing.

Dr. G and Jen are amazing! I have had 2 back surgeries with them, quick recovery, no residual pain, great outcome! The office got me right in both time, no wait, very efficient with my LOA paperwork. Follow up has been great as well.

I went for back pain. Possibly he was having a bad day but it was one of the most unpleasant doctor visits I’ve ever had. I am 72 with osteoporosis and was concerned about a possible fracture. He was rude and unpleasant and spoke to as if I was a 5 year old. I would not recommend this doctor to anyone who wants to be treated with some caring.

Dr Girasole was able to quickly diagnose my lumbar issue and get me into surgery pretty quickly. I am 6 months out and back to walking 4-5 miles a day!

Direct, to the point and precise. My situation was emergency surgery (spinal fusion). There was not much time. After the preliminary evaluation, tests and scans, he presented the facts, options and his path forward.
