Disconnected, Unconcerned
Dr. Chitters is disconnected and muddled in his conversations and decision-making. The amounts of medication and the doses he prescribes are, according to 2nd and 3rd professional opinions, reckless. It is unconscionable that this man is allowed to treat such a vulnerable population.

Seeing my experienced mirrored in these reviews and on other websites saying how Dr. Chitters misdiagnosed people with bipolar, is upsetting. I was also misdiagnosed with bipolar. I also felt like things I would bring up were dismissed. Eventually I dropped him as a doctor because I felt I wasn’t getting good care & the 4 medications I was on were giving me new issues through the side effects. I was also told to take Xanax 3x+ a day. When I switched doctors she asked me how I wasn’t in rehab. Luckily since then I have found exceptionalcare for what turned out to be adult adhd.

I am writing this as an over 50 year old individual who started receiving mental health treatment last couple of years. Although cold from the start, I thought Dr Chitters lengthy assessment was comprehensive. However, the first time it was apparent I was in distress, he gave me a horror film cold look and basically told me to wipe my tears and get over it. Similar to so many on this thread, he dismissed all his findings from his initial thorough assessment and determined I was bipolar with 3 scripts in a single 30 minute session. That was my last appointment with any psychiatrist, at that point, as I use my PCP for needed medication. I provided my age earlier b/c my heart goes out to the much younger population seeking his services, but potentially following through with the professional advice of this really disturbed physician. There’s a reason why he’s one of the few psychiatrists in Boulder accepting new patients. This is too bad.

Dr. Chitters diagnosed me with bipolar 2 and prescribed 3 meds to start. I questioned his diagnosis which he did not like. I got TWO second opinions from two different psychiatrist and guess what. Neither saw any bipolar on any level. I am managing my anxiety with psychotherapy and NO medications. The meds Dr. Chitters prescribed would have been harmful to me. He is cold, uncaring and you won't spend a second longer with him than your scheduled time. You will be rudely asked to leave. I definitely would not recommend this doctor!

I have a friend who has been a patient of Dr Chitters for years. He diagnosed her with bi polar disorder years ago. She came to visit me recently. She takes 11 or so different medications every day all prescribed by him. Her memory is shot.

Dr. Chitters was extremely unempathatic. I've never met a worse psychiatrist. Clearly he is only thinking of his liability insurance.

I found Dr. Chitters to lack empathy and any interest in what I was actually saying. His evaluation felt canned and as if he had been listening to someone else for the last 3 hours of our intake. He seemed defensive when I offered feedback and asked questions.

He expressed no interest in my personal life and did not try to understand me. He diagnosed me incorrectly with bipolar disorder and OCD when I was 20 and out me on depakote for a week which made me extremely emotionally unstable. Stay away! Extremely cold and uninvested in you personally. Just seemed to be interested in finishing each meeting and getting you out the door after paying.

HORRIBLE! STAY AWAY! He diagnoses everyone with some form of Bi-Polar disorder. When I got pregnant unexpectedly, I asked if I could be taken off one of my medications because I didn't feel like I really needed it and could manage the depression just fine, he increased the dose. Then tried to bad mouth my OB and her recommendations. In addition to adding another rx for my anxiety, which has never worked for me. Long story short, he now called and said I am a risk to myself and my child. Nice try

He is one of the few psychiatrists who really makes an effort to understand you and hear your story unlike many others who say little and send you out with a prescription and no guidance.

Dr. Chitters helped my tailor my care plan to suit my lifestyle. He listened to my concerned and changed his entire recommendation based on what I had to say. I never felt like he was just giving me the usual medication and sending me away.
