Careless
This provider had a patient taking an SSRI (that patient had been on for more than 10 years) & PPI(Which patient had been on for longer than 1 year), with EKGs WNL. PPI and this particular SSRI have interaction flags for prolonged QT so the provider decides to switch BOTH medications, causing patient much distress. The sensible action would have been to switch out the PPI. However, changing the SSRI (that was working perfectly well) was catastrophic. There was no reason to switch antidepressants. Now patient and doctors are having a terrible time trying to figure out which change has caused the patient's terrible symptoms. In addition to all of this, the provider decides to ABRUPTLY switch her back to her original SSRI, without tapering off the other one first. Patients cannot rely on such careless providers.
