I was referred to Dr Vassiliev for management of pain from prior cervical spine surgery and a shoulder injury. I had been on an anti anxiety medication prescribed 20 years ago for another issue. Dr Vassiliev prescribed one pill a day of the lowest opioid dose, one step above acetaminophen, and required me to see a psychiatrist to continue the anti anxiety meds. The group he referred to were booked for 3 months and weren’t taking new patients. I notified him through the patient portal, but he offered nothing. I remained in severe pain with anxiety and no sleep, and continued to send him updates through the AHN patient portal mostly with no response. I asked him to review my prior MRIs and consider epidural or nerve root injections which I’ve had with a prior pain management group in another state. He said he didn’t see any reason for injections. After three months of trying to work with him, I sent him a final message stating he wasn’t managing my pain and I was done.

Horrible
My rheumatologist referred me to a pain doctor to get me on a medication to help with my flares and chronic pain. ( I have never been on any prescription narcotics ) I should’ve done my home work before I saw Dr. V. He asked me why i was there and I explained what I’ve been going through. He said well I don’t prescribe pain medication , he said you have rheumatoid arthritis it is a painful disease but just keeping ibuprofen. I told him it wasn’t helping, he suggested acupuncture. I told him I really didn’t think that would help with my flares. He said then you’re refusing my recommendation. I started to cry out of frustration - so he then suggested I see a therapist. The worst and most rude Doctor I have ever met … stay away !

Wonderful caring Doctor
Dr. V. Is absolutely wonderful. He is caring, attentive to listen to you speak, and thoughtful in his approach to make you feel better. During the procedures, his bedside manor is superb. I highly recommend Dr. V. He truly helped restore me from cervical neck pain.

Dr. Vassilev has a compassionate approach in the care and understanding of his patients. In the cancer journey with my husband we have been surrounded by the best of care! So very thankful we were directed to his outstanding care.

I found Dr. V to lack empathy and compassion. He is not an educator for the decisions he makes. He is abrupt and impatient. I question the channels of AGH that hire Pain management staff. Pain Management patients are not themselves when requesting help. We are not numbers but human beings paying for management of our pain and understanding the how the plan works. I would not recommend. When a patient leave the office in tears and no one care there is a definite red flag.

Dr. Dmitri Vassiliev did not listen to me at all. All he did was look at past medical tests and quickly dismissed conditions found in previous MRI’s performed by other doctors. I couldn’t agree more that he is arrogant, rude and an uncaring doctor. He also totally misrepresented his field of expertise of a being a pain specialist. I should’ve checked healthgrades and discovered he went to Moscow Medical Stomatological and specializes in anesthesiology, Stomatology is a basically a dental school -- in Russia -- from 32 years ago.

ARROGANT, rude and uncaring doctor. Awful bedside manner. He clearly doesn't care about your pain. He loves to argue with the patient and make you feel worse about yourself.

I’m only giving one star because I can’t give 0!!! This office is full of kind nurses, but the Doctor...a WASTE of time!!! He is ignorant and down right rude. Lord help you if you are even 5lbs over weight! He is a body shammer and has no bed side manner. A doctor should be compassionate, yet honest. It’s obvious that he is not able to provide quality care to patients. I’d rather travel to the depths of The rainforest then ever speak or see this man again!

I like Dr. Vassiliev, and have counted on him for various treatments, including pain meds. For chronic neck pain. I just wish he did not require me to see a psychiatrist to see him. I have had 2 very bad experiences with psychiatrists, causing me not to trust them. Into longer see Dr. Vassiliev since my new PCP is treating ADHD and does not allow concurrent use of pain medicine. I would see Dr. Vassiliev in the future if I needed pain medicine or interventional procedures.

I have been to another paint specialist, Dr. Vassiliev is fantastic. He requires an evaluation appointment, which I really liked. He had my MRIs, no questions needed, I was in pain! Sent by my neurosurgeon.

My experience with Dr Vassiliev and his staff is very poor. The staff is incompetent, especially Crystal. He must get a lot of drug seekers because that is how he treated me, as if I was there for drugs, instead of something that would improve the overall health of my back. The staff manager called and was very unprofessional with me over an issue I was having in being signed back to work. He was very unprofessional in his doctor notes to my lawyer as well, which impacted my job.

Avoid! Like others have stated, he's not a good doctor at all. He will make you feel horrible for having pain. It doesn't matter if you have a well-documented chronic condition, he WILL treat you like a pill popper and threaten to kick you out at least once a month. Everyone that I've met who has met with him has a horror story... if you are seeing him soon, please remember to leave a review so people know to look out.

My previous pain management doctor left the practice at the Wexford Health & Wellness Center so they set me up with Dr. Vassiliev. He came into the room, said that he had gone over my chart & was going to stop my pain meds & put me on Lyrica. He said Lyrica has the same properties as Neurotin & should help me. I told him that I have had adverse reactions to Neurotin to the point of passing out & memory loss. He said Lyrica isn't as strong. I ended up having a SEVERE allergic reaction.

Dr. Vassiliev was recommended to me for pain management of my chronic low back pain/lump back in 2010-2012. Although he seems knowledgeable, he did not seem to listen/address my concerns and questions, and the injections used to help my pain actually worsened it. Made me feel like I was a pain pill drug addict and refused to offer any medication to help me, stating Advil should work.
