Great surgeon, kept us informed every step
We had a complicated case that Dr. Patel took on - all in. Got in for surgery appointment quickly, spent as much time as needed for us to fully understand the procedure. Staff was excellent and very responsive, answering all questions and making sure insurance paperwork was set. He talked with us just before the procedure, talked to me immediately after the procedure, everything went well. Visited my wife the following day and gave her a full review and made sure all questions were answered. The nurses all said if they needed surgery, he would be the one they would want. Can’t say enough good things about him and his staff.

I saw Dr. Patel today felt a little dismissed and talked down to especially after being rushed to see him from my GI. He walked in listen to the PA tell him my BMI was 32, saw a big black woman, told me he wouldn’t address my issue until I dropped 25-30 lbs because he didn’t want to do the surgery again in six months. I was told to consider gastric band surgery and let them fix my hernia. It is frustrating that this doctor had clearly made up his mind that he wasn’t taking my case on that I could continue to suffer even after explaining to him that the prior hernia surgery was 14 years prior. He saw weight, and not person or historydid not review my past or file and let me leave his office after my GI indicated that the gastric vovulos was life threatening and moved my endoscope up 3 weeks so that I could be seen by this doctor only to be sent away. I pray that nothing happens while trying to get help. The PA was amazing but does not get the respect that he should.

My husband was diagnosed with stage 1 Esophageal cancer over 3 years ago. He was referred to by another doctor. The cancer was caught in time. 80% of his Esophagus was removed to make sure that no cancer would spread and it did not. My husband had the surgery done at Chandler Regional. This was a first for this hospital since this operation is done at St. Joseph. Anyone that handled him were trained like the nurses at St. Joseph who work with patients like him. Dr. Patel and the nurses that handled my husband were awesome! The surgery was a success! His words to us were don't thank me until you leave the hospital and John did. During his follow ups, or anytime he went back into the hospital for other reasons, Dr. Patel was there. His dedication to his patients is above the highest ratings that you could give a doctor. John considered this doctor as part of our family. Dr. Patel will tell you like it is. And those times were needed in my husband's case. Dr. Patel does not hold back and

My father had COPD and was in need of lung transplant. He was seen my Dr. Patel at St. Joseph's hospital. He was finally listed for a transplant. Three months ago we got the call we had been waiting for. A set of lungs were available for dad. Dr. Patel did the transplant and everything went well. He saved his life and gave us more time with our dad. My kids have a grandfather they can now play with at the park. This is time they will never forget. We are so thankful for this wonderful team of doctors and nurses that have blessed our lives.

I was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Going thru chemo and radiation was tough. Dr. Patel reassured me many times and continued to give me the confidence I needed to fight on. He operated on me after chemo and radiation. The surgery went very well without any issues. His nursing staff took excellent care of me. Dr. Patel saved my life. He and his staff are truly amazing people! Thank you!

Staff is very rude and unorganized. Dr provides treatment plan surgery and then other procedures. Called 3 weeks ago medical assistant said she was waiting for Insurance approval for additional procedures . Now called back three weeks later no the doctor never put it in his notes. So addition not approved.

Dr. Patel operated on my lungs for lung cancer. I was impressed from the get go. His office assistant is beyond amazing and helpful. She had all my tests scheduled in a timely manner and always returned my calls. Dr. Patel took the time to explain the operation to me in ways which I could understand. He drew us diagrams and really made things easy. He saw me in the hospital multiple times a day. His drive for his patients is beyond amazing. He even called me at home to make sure I was doing well

Judging by previous reviews, Dr. Patel has a history of making threats when he is questioned by a patient. Interestingly enough, we experienced the same thing. When asked why he prescribed a steroid out of curiosity, he became defensive and threatened the critically ill patient with hospital discharge. It’s all about his ego, not healing.

One of the most compassionate doctors I have ever had. I was diagnosed with lung cancer and my oncologist sent me to Dr. Patel. He took over an hour for the first visit explaining the care and treatment process. I had my lung removed with 3 small incisions and was home the next day. Dr. Patel personally called me to ask how I was recovering when I was at home--I don't think anyone has ever done that. He is very personable and I trust him with my life. Thank you Dr. Patel.

This is perhaps the worst experience I've ever had with a Doctor. This guy threatened me to get me to do an unnecessary procedure and then after the Chandler Regional Medical Center told me that I shouldn't do the procedure they threatened me again and then started billing me for "consultations" that never occurred.
