Dr. Jonathan D Cunha, MD

In 2019, I was a rare case of spontaneous pneumothorax happening every other two weeks for a very young college student. I was transferred from Banner Health to him and despite all the chaos, unknowns with the surgeries we had to do, D'Cunha never made me question his level of confidence. He took on my case right when he moved here I believe. If it were not for him being around and the impeccable time, I seriously would not be alive right now. Having 6 chest tubes was not fun, they made sure I was taken care of with pain meds for the 2-3 months I was in there. He was direct, honest about the pros & cons of the few surgery options I had, and he still follows up. But, if you want a passionate & knowledgeable cardiothoracic surgeon, I would highly suggest him. I do NOT trust any other doctor messing with my lung issues besides him due to how well him & Mayo have taken care of me the past 4 years. I'll be so sad when he decides to retire. I don't know who I will be able to trust next!

After extensive testing at Mayo in Phoenix, I was able to have minimally invasive thoracic/abdominal surgery with Dr. D'Cunha and his team in October 2022. At age 69, with several previous surgeries in the past, and a husband with Parkinson's to care for at home, I have to say I was anxious about how it would go for me. My doctors here in NM were unable to find any other surgeon who was willing to consider taking my case, let alone actually see me for an evaluation. I am now 3 months past the surgery and feeling well. I had NO post-surgical pain at all, thanks to the excellent internal nerve blocks provided--and I required NO narcotic pain management. I thought this was just amazing! Dr. D'Cunha is direct, answers all questions at any time with great respect, and is a consummate professional. His entire team is the same, as is the staff at Mayo hospital. I really cannot imagine having had better care anywhere. I am so grateful for Dr. D'Cunha's skill and his willingness to help me.

Dr. D'Cunha is the reason my husband is still with us. He is an amazing surgeon with an awesome team. He is one of the few specialists that is actually approachable. Very good bed side manner. Very caring with both the patient and the family. Can't say enough good things about him. He remained positive when other doctors were preparing us for the worst. I would recommend him to anyone.
