Sent a PA to do his job
I have had a few surgeries, hands, knees, shoulders. And each time, I met with the surgeons. I was showed xrays, mri images of the problem. Well this man sent a PA, who spent about 30 minutes, explaining that I needed very invasive surgery. Rehab would be 6 months of no bending, twisting. or lifting anything over 10 pounds. I was offered no other answer. I own a farm and that is completely unacceptable.

Terrible experience
I had surgery by Dr. Kanaly 10 years ago. He was wonderful across the board. Great bedside manner and the surgery was a complete success. I needed to go back for advice on how to go forward, now 10 years later (surgery result was supposed to last 5 years if I took proper care). Trying to get a live person on the phone, took months. I left messages with a rare response. Plus, the person was very intolerant when she did respond. I finally jumped through all the hoops required and they gave an appointment with a different Dr. in a different office. This Dr. was excellent, BUT, he told me that Dr. Kanaly's office sent me to this new Dr. because I had a very old fracture in my back, but could no longer be fixed. That fracture was 50+ years ago and was NOT at all what I went to see Kanaly for!!! On top of all that, I live 1500 miles away from Fall River and was never told that a Zoom meet was an option. I am sure that Dr. Kanaly is still excellent in every way, it is his staff=NO!

Rude staff
Refused to give me an appointment or talk to Dr Kanaly and referred me to pain management. After explaining I was already a patient and not interested in pain management, staff said if I wasn't interested in pain management there was nothing she could do for me and hung up

Saw stenosis at L4-L5 and immediately suggested laminectomy and a fusion. Both were performed July 2020 with NO RELIEF 2 years later. There is no diagnosis with Dr. Kanaly. He pushes for surgery, complete lack of diagnostic investigation

Dr. Kanaly has basically given me back a pain free life after 15+ years of chronic neck pain, I will be forever grateful. He performed a C-5-6-7 Cervical Spine Fusion, I realized immediately the difference and after 8 wks PT I'm able to have full rotation of my neck , normal use of my hands, huge improvement in my posture. He spoke at length with me before and after surgery. The follow up care and that of is staff is a 10+ as was the excellent care I received at St Annes Fall River.

When I first visited Dr, Kanaly in May 2019 I had been in severe pain for 10 years . I could barely walk and it was getting worse all the time . Making it through the work day was becoming increasingly more difficult . Weekends I spent laying down to rest for the up coming work week I had already had several rounds of spinal injections and physical therapy , each round giving me less relief than the time prior . My quality of life was diminishing rapidly . I spoke with my PCP and he suggested a current MRI and a consultation with Dr. Kanaly . This was the beginning of a life altering decision . Dr. Kanaly , his PA's and the hospital far exceeded anything I could have ever hoped for . Their kindness , compassion and help were amazing ! I returned to work 7 weeks later. Dr. Kanaly gave me back my life and three months after surgery I danced with my son at his wedding. His hands are truly magical !!!!!!!! I am so thankful for him and his entire team . Thank you so much!

I recently had back surgery by Dr Kanaly. In my opinion, he is very skilled, very kind compassionate and he listens. He answers questions, and returns phone calls. He is also board certified and up on the last methods of neurosurgery, and "not knife happy", meaning I had another problem, he ordered an MRI and told me my back, though moderately diseased, was not fixable at this time. That to me, is a top notched surgeon.

I had severe back pain for over 4 months. After trying physical therapy, pain management, resting, yoga and massage nothing seemed to work. I finally went for an MRI and found I had a bulging disk. My PCP referred me To Dr. Kanaly and he did surgery a few weeks later. He is very kind, he explained everything to me about what was wrong with my back while showing me the MRI results. Surgery was a breeze and my recovery was easy. I can't thank this man enough I am now pain free.
