I saw Amy for endometriosis when I was around 20. I was in extreme pain, I was skeletal, could barely hold down food and I had no family to support me. I asked Amy for a hysterectomy. Amy said I was too young and could want kids someday. I pled with her and told her I was trying to join the military and the endo was ruining my chances at college. Amy told me she would give me a hysterectomy if the military wrote her a letter saying they would accept me if she gave me a hysterectomy. I’m 32 now and I’ve developed tumors in my uterus so I can’t have kids anyways.

She’s the 1 to see for pelvic pain!
Dr. Amy Benjamin is amazing! I have been with this specific office since 2005 when I was told my endometriosis was back but I also had Interstitial Cystitis, pelvic floor dysfunction and other chronic pain I see her mainly for pelvic floor dysfunction, and to make sure my endometriosis stays under control. Dr. Benjamin has gotten to know me and we have wonderful talks before my procedures. She is an amazing surgeon as well! I see her in the office if there’s a dire need, and saw her when I started with her. She has an interesting bedside manner, but it’s not a bad bedside manner. She knows her stuff, knows what needs to be done and will help you in anyway she can. She will NEVER make you do a treatment your uncomfortable with, she will even suggest different treatments instead. She is amazing and I will continue with her until the day she retires! I can’t say enough good about her!

Staff was rude. First they say they have your records, then the next day they say they don’t have them, and act like it’s your fault. Not well trained in the art of interacting with people who are experiencing chronic debilitating pain. If you have chronic pain, try the Upstate Pain Clinic instead. Dr. Vilensky has a great bedside manner and treat patients with compassion and respect — qualities that Dr. Benjamin apparently lacks.

Perhaps a skilled surgeon, but with the amount of patients she sees with pelvic pain, one would expect her to have treatment plans for management of pain, chronic or not. I found myself having to bring in information on medicines to try and find something to help. Over 5 years under her care I was left in high levels of pain without a proactive, engaged Dr and treatment plan for my endometriosis and other chronic conditions. I was told at my last appointment, along with a Dr in residency shadowing her, that having withdrawal symptoms from SNRI medicines was all in my head and not possible despite the FDA's findings and endless literature including the side effects listed for the drug. Poor bedside manner, treated me as young woman with anxiety, not a person with a disease and severe pain. I was under-dosed on medications according to my weight, an oversight that has left me housebound for 5 years. Always seek a second opinion.

Very thorough at first but not long term. Her bedside manner is inconsistent; she can be abrupt, sarcastic and lacking in compassion. After a full year as her patient she is finally recommending treatments beyond vaginal Valium. I only stay at her clinic because of the NP who is amazing.

She has diagnosed me with a pelvic floor disfunction and nothing was helping. Turned out she diagnosed me wrong. Now I'm diagnosed with a pelvic congestion syndrome. Time well wasted.
