Biography: Dr. Salvatore Caruana is the Director of the Division of Head and Neck Surgery in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Columbia University Medical Center. He is a widely respected head and neck surgeon in the forefront of the surgical treatment of tumors of the mouth pharynx, larynx and sinuses, parathyroid surgery, thyroid gland, and salivary glands. Biography: Michael J. Pitman MD is Chief of the Division of Laryngology at the Columbia University Medical Center and the Director of The Center For Voice And Swallowing. Dr. Pitman is an internationally recognized expert in voice restoration, conservation and care of the professional voice as well as in the care of swallowing and airway disorders. Dr. Pitman is also a NIH funded clinician scientist who has performed and published extensive research. Biography: Dr. Anas Rameau is an attending laryngologist at the Institute, and an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology at Weill Cornell Medical College. She is a fellowship-trained otolaryngologist-head and neck surgeon, with advanced expertise in the evaluation and treatment of swallowing disorders, encompassing esophageal stenosis, gastro-esophageal reflux, dysmotility, sequelae of head and neck and thoracic radiation, Zenker's diverticulum and age-related dysphagia. She also has specialized training in the management of chronic cough, treatment of benign diseases and malignant tumors of the larynx, voice restoration, and airway rehabilitation surgery. Prior to joining the Institute, Dr. Rameau was an otolaryngology resident at Stanford University and then a fellow at UC Davis Medical School, under the mentorship of Peter Belafsky, MD MPH PhD.Dr. Rameau's clinical goals is to provide expert and compassionate care for patients with dysphagia both in the clinic and in the operating room, and to restore patients' swallowing function via advanced diagnostics technology, as well as refined endoscopic and surgical treatments. Biography: Yi Cai, MD is an Assistant Professor and Director of Sleep Surgery at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Biography: Anuraag S. Parikh, MD is a fellowship trained head and neck surgeon scientist, with clinical expertise in the full breadth of head and neck surgical oncology and microvascular reconstruction. Dr. Parikh graduated from the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Harvard University/Massachusetts Eye and Ear. During residency, he completed an additional two year postdoctoral research fellowship under an NIH T32 grant and was awarded the Jeffrey P. Harris, MD PhD Research Award for his work in tumor heterogeneity in head and neck cancer. He then completed fellowship in advanced head and neck surgical oncology and microvascular reconstruction at the Ohio State University/James Cancer Center. Dr. Parikh's clinical interests include the treatment of benign and malignant conditions of the head and neck, including tumors of the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, sinonasal tract, skull base, skin, salivary glands, thyroid, and parathyroid. Dr. Parikh specializes in transoral robotic surgery (TORS) for tumors of the oropharynx and microvascular free tissue transfer for reconstruction of the head and neck. Dr. Parikh also conducts basic and translational research aimed at understanding the role of tumor heterogeneity on treatment outcomes in head and neck cancer (HNSCC) and salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC). His work utilizes novel techniques such as single cell sequencing, multispectral imaging, and 3D organoid modeling to model HNSCC and ACC tumors at the level of individual cells.
