Biography: Dr. Merkler is a native New Yorker who received his undergraduate degree from Brown University where he graduated magna cum laude. Dr. Merkler earned his medical degree from New York University where he received the prestigious Rosenbluth Grant for international laboratory research. Dr. Merkler completed residency in neurology at the Weill Cornell Medical College and served as the Chief Resident in his final year. Dr. Merkler then completed a two-year fellowship in neurocritical care at Columbia University / Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Merkler is board certified in Neurology and Neurocritical Care. Dr. Merkler is an expert in stroke and acute brain and spine injury. Dr. Merkler has authored more than 100 publications in peer reviewed medical journals on neurological disorders. Dr. Merkler also serves as a peer reviewer for several medical journals including JAMA, Neurology, Stroke, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Circulation, and Hypertension. Biography: Jennifer Carver, FNP-BC is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner under the guidance and mentorship of Dr. Padmaja Kandula in Clinical Neurophysiology and the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Pennsylvania State University and her Master of Science with honors in Nursing at Wagner College. She is also certified in critical care and in neuroscience by the American Board of Neuroscience Nurses. NP Carver began her career in Neuro Critical Care at NYP providing specialized care for patients with a multitude of neurocritical conditions including acute status epilepticus and those requiring intracranial EEG monitoring. NP Carver also sees patients independently. She believes that her background in neurocritical care has given her a solid foundation upon which she can build her proficiency in managing patients with medically refractory epilepsy, surgical candidates, and patients with VNS and RNS device implants. Biography: Baxter Ballantine Allen, MD, a neurologist and neurocritical care specialist, is an attending neurologist and neurointensivist at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and New York-Presbyterian Queens, and an assistant professor of clinical neurology at Weill Cornell Medicine. Board certified in neurology, Dr. Allen has a special focus on stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, traumatic brain injury, seizures, and neurological conditions.Active in research, Dr. Allen is currently studying traumatic brain injury leading to post-traumatic epilepsy, effective therapies for head injuries, and the detection of seizures. Biography: Gurcharanjeet Kaur, MD is an assistant professor of neurology at CUIMC, in the Division of Child Neurology. Dr. Kaur is a graduate of Lady Hardinge Medical College in New Delhi, India. She completed residency in both pediatric neurology and neuro-oncology at Stony Brook University Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, respectively. Dr. Kaur is a board-certified child neurologist and pediatric neuro-oncologist, with particular expertise in neurofibromatosis (NF) and NF-related tumors, cancer related neurotoxicity, and tumor targeted therapy for low grade gliomas. Dr. Kaur is dedicated to helping children while minimizing the toxicities and residual deficits by providing the highest quality of care and access to recent advances in the field. Dr. Kaur remains committed to clinical and pre-clinical research. She has been involved in the clinical trials as a site principal investigator and co-investigator. Biography: Ikjae Lee, MD is an Assistant Professor of Neurology in the Division of Neuromuscular Medicine. Dr. Lee received his MD from Seoul National University College of Medicine in South Korea. After moving to United States, he completed residency in Neurology and fellowship in Neuromuscular Medicine at the University of Cincinnati. During his training, he received Outstanding Junior Investigators by American Stroke Association in 2013 and Resident & Fellow member recognition award by American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine in 2016. Dr. Lee joined University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2016 as an Assistant Professor in Neurology Department where he served as a Co-Director of ALS Multidisciplinary Clinic focusing on high quality care of ALS and other neuromuscular disease patients. Biography: Dr. Krellman is an Associate Professor of Neuropsychology and a provider on the Neuropsychology Service. He is board certified in both clinical neuropsychology (ABPP-CN) and rehabilitation psychology (ABPP-RP) by the American Board of Professional Psychology. He is one of only approximately 20 clinicians in the US and Canada certified in both specialties, which attests to his specialization in both the assessment and treatment of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral symptoms due to neurological injury or disease. He has extensive experience in the neuropsychological evaluation of individuals with mild cognitive impairment or dementia due to neurodegenerative diseases, brain tumors, and traumatic brain injury as well as expertise in concussion evaluation and symptom management. Dr. Krellman earned his doctorate in clinical neuropsychology from the City University of New York, where his dissertation work focused on neuroanatomical and behavioral phenotyping of inbred mouse strains to develop animal models of neurodevelopmental disorders. He completed his predoctoralinternship training in clinical neuropsychology and geriatric psychology at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center (now Northwell Health System), and he completed his postdoctoral fellowship training in clinical neuropsychology and traumatic brain injury rehabilitation research at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. In addition to his clinical duties on the Service, Dr. Krellman is a co-investigator or consultant on research studies examining neuropsychological outcomes in both neurological and non-neurological patient populations. His previous research focused on developing rehabilitation treatments and assessing cognitive and psychiatric outcomes in survivors of moderate to severe traumatic brain injury. He is the President of the New York Neuropsychology Group (NYNG) and Co-Chair of its Training and Mentorship Committee. Relatedly, he co-directs training programs for predoctoral externs and postdoctoral fellows on the Service with his colleagues.

Biography: Dr. Philip L. De Jager is professor of neurology. After graduating from Yale University with a degree in Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry, Dr. De Jager received a PhD in Neurogenetics from Rockefeller University and an MD from Cornell University Medical College, before completing his MMSc in Clinical Investigation at Harvard Medical School (HMS) and MIT. He served as a neurology resident in the Partners Neurology Residency Program at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital. He then joined the faculty at HMS, rising to the rank of associate professor before joining CUIMC. The goal of Dr. De Jager's work as a clinician-scientist is to apply modern methods of neuro-immunology, statistical genetics, and systems biology to the understanding of common neurodegenerative diseases. At CUIMC, Dr. De Jager serves as Chief of the Department of Neurology's Division of Neuroimmunology, which includes the Columbia University Multiple Sclerosis Center and focuses on characterizing and targeting the neuro-immunologic component of neurodegenerative disease. Dr. De Jager also serves as the director of a new Center for Translational & Computational Neuro-Immunology.
