Biography: Hector Urrutia, MD is a board certified Cardiologist with Rio Grande Cardiovascular and Structural Heart in McAllen, Texas. A native of El Salvador, Dr. Urrutia graduated from the National University of El Salvador with a Doctorate in Medicine. Dr. Urrutia then continued his Residency at St. Louis University in Internal Medicine and Neurology. This was followed by a double fellowship in Adult and Pediatric Cardiology at the Washington University in St. Louis at both Jewish-Barnes and Children's Hospital of St. Louis. Dr. Urrutia initiated and developed the first formal cardiovascular disease program in McAllen, including the introduction of Ultrasound, Balloon Counterpulsation, Cardiac Catheterization, Coronary Angioplasties and Cardiac Surgery. Additionally, he introduced the use of lasers, rotational atherectomy, thrombolysis, and stent insertion. Dr. Urrutia is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease. Currently, his main interest is in treating patients with advanced angina pectoris refractory to treatment, refractory congestive heart failure or malignant hypertension with renal disease. Dr. Urrutia enjoys dealing with the most difficult challenges in heart disease.
