Dr. Theodore Bauer, DDS

As a student at OSU and an OhioHealth employee, I was deeply disappointed with Dr. Theodore ‘Ted’ Bauer's service which began at a routine new-patient dental cleaning. Despite my excellent oral health, Dr. Bauer recommended a frenulectomy for a tongue-tie, a condition never identified by previous dentists.Trusting his judgment, I underwent the surgery, resulting in ongoing paresthesia (tingling, prickling, burning, numbness). I believe that Dr. Bauer did not provide satisfactory answers to me regarding his diagnosis, the surgery, or treatment for the complication.Later, Dr. Zaghi of The Breathe Clinic informed me that in his opinion, the surgery was not indicated for me and that parts of the procedure deviated from Dr. Zaghi’s established protocol. Based on my experience, I urge others to research thoroughly and seek a second opinion before proceeding with treatments at Schumacher & Bauer DDS. This experience has led me to seek dental care elsewhere.

I am deeply disappointed with the service I received at Schumacher & Bauer DDS. Like many unsuspecting patients, I saw Dr. Bauer for a routine NEW PATIENT dental cleaning and a checkup of a flawless smile in EXCELLENT oral health. I underwent a wrongful and unnecessary dental ‘frenectomy’ laser surgery AS AN ADULT performed by Dr. Theodore Bauer, who was serving on the Ohio State Dental Board. I initially trusted Dr. Bauer’s insistent judgment and pressure to schedule me for the surgery. Despite bringing my concerns to the attention of Dr.  Bauer, I have received no satisfactory resolution or acknowledgment of the validity of his diagnosis or the procedure itself. It's alarming to think that such incompetence is tolerated in a professional setting. The negligence displayed by Dr. Bauer  has had a profound impact on my quality of life, leaving me with permanent and unbearable pain. It was later confirmed by a world-leading frenectomy expert that I should have never had that surgery. I urge anyone considering dental procedures or even a simple new patient cleaning at Schumacher & Bauer DDS to think twice and seek alternative options. My experience serves as a cautionary tale, and I hope others can avoid the suffering I have endured due to Dr. Bauer’s gross incompetence.

I didn't think it was possible to be fat shamed by a dentist, but he did it. I said that I had tooth sensitivity when I ate things that were sweet, and he said, "well, maybe that's for the best". Even worse, he didn't address the sensitivity issue. I also had a filling that needed to be replaced multiple times as it was causing me pain. While Dr. Bauer replaced it for free, he seemed frustrated by the fact that it was still causing me trouble even after the replacement, and at the end it felt like I was the problem, rather than the filling. I really didn't find Dr. Bauer to have a great patient-facing manner with me. He was friendly enough, but it mostly felt like he thought I was more of a pain than a customer.

I went to Dr. Bauer one time (my dentist was on vacation) and he kept telling me how bad my teeth were. I'm in my 50's and am well aware of the situation with my teeth. He made me feel so bad, I was almost in tears. Swore I would never go to him again, and I haven't.
