Biography: Imagine going to an amusement park and seeing all the joy and happiness around you but not being able to enjoy it yourself. You can smell the tantalizing smells and hear the contagious laughter. You long for the freedom to interact with those around you or at least be able to smile and mean it, yet there's something blocking that freedom. What is it? Is it depression? Is it severe anxiety? Is it overwhelming grief? Is it guilt and shame that hangs on you like an old worn out coat? Is it consuming fear that won't allow you to step into who you truly are and keeps you bound behind a frail representation of You. What can you do when your perception is woven with lies, fear, brokenness and pain? Is there a way to break free of your pain, fear, and beliefs that you are nothing more than your behaviors or nothing more than your brokenness? ABSOLUTELY! You have so much to offer and so much to give! It may be underneath some depression, or some anxiety, or some guilt and shame, or possibly some fear but I believe there is HOPE and there is FREEDOM for you! Some of us have went through tremendous pain, some have experienced immense trauma, and some just have feelings that seem to be uncontrollable and we may not even know why. I believe we are in this together and finding someone that we can open up to and relate to can be an incredible healing experience for both people. I use a faith based approach with those that are open to that form of therapy. If you prefer a different modality then I use cognitive behavioral therapy as an approach to counseling. I am very much looking forward to meeting you and beginning a counseling relationship where we can both grow and learn from each other.

I earned my BA degree in Psychology and Sociology from Brandeis University and my MSW degree from the University of California Berkeley, and I have worked in many different settings, providing care to people in need. I am well versed in working with people who struggle with depression, anxiety and panic, history of trauma, emotional and binge eating, addiction, family and relationship issues, work stress, and a multitude of life problems. My approach to treatment draws heavily on Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Both modalities examine how our thoughts and behaviors influence our emotions and mood. DBT balances change strategies with acceptance strategies and is centered in the practice of mindfulness. Together we can identify ways of thinking and behavioral patterns that are leading to emotional pain and problems in living. Awareness is the first step; the next is beginning to make small changes that eventually lead to big changes. Change takes time, and it takes determination and courage. I am excited to walk that path with you.

Biography: Hello! I'm so glad you are here! If you are ready to make some changes in life that are likely to result in improved mental health, improved quality of life, and general well being; you came to the right place! My approach in counseling is in general to look at the person as a whole; not as their symptoms of problems. I use holistic, solution focused, and trauma informed models to engage client's in the counseling process and achieve their goals. I have been trained in trauma informed approaches such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR); which uses several tools to help client's negative past events have less emotional impact on their lives. I am also certified in a counseling approach called seed digging therapy (SD), which is developed off the therapy developed in the 90's called theophostic therapy. The premise of seed digging therapy (SD) is that each individual is generally mostly good, has a desire to be good to others, and wants to have a happy and productive life. The model states that a person's heart is a "garden" which in analogy has "weeds" and "flowers". Traumatic/Sad events tend to produce weeds and Happy events tend to produce flowers. Weeds in a persons heart can cause many negative reactions in life ranging from interpersonal relationships, self esteem, negative view of the world. Weeds occur when a lie is believed about that sad/bad event. Examples of weeds: not feeling adequate, feeling unloved, feeling a lack of importance. Flowers are developed when something happens that is positive/ good, and the individual believes something good about themselves. Examples of flowers: I do matter, I am important, I am loved, I belong in this group, family, friendship etc. The process of seed digging therapy is to find where the root of the negative thoughts started, and create an alternate belief opposite of the negative. Using narrative techniques, the person has the opportunity to recreate meaning if they want to. I am very excited to meet you, get to know you and help see you to the other side of where you want to be. If you would like to work more with me, we can talk more about your goals and what steps to take to get there.

Biography: Hi there! My name is Jen and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the beautiful state of Oregon with over 11 years of experience in working with adults and couples. I believe that we all have the ability to create wholeheartedness within ourselves, but sometimes we just get stuck in old patterns of thoughts and behaviors that are no longer serving us. It can be difficult to get out of the habit of these patterns, which can leave us feeling frustrated, ashamed, hopeless, and so many of the other not-so-fun feels! Therapy can be a helpful tool in dealing with, and eventually changing, these unwanted patterns. My theory of change is that it first begins with awareness. This awareness then leads to subtle shifts in our reactions, which help to form new patterns of thoughts and behaviors. I help clients create this lasting change in their lives by using an eclectic approach based on Mindfulness, The Daring Way™ (the work of Brene' Brown), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Neurobiology, Relational Therapy, Attachment Theory, Nonviolent Communication, Hakomi, etc. My counseling style is relaxed and collaborative, and chock-full of empathy, curiosity, and humor! I hold a Master of Arts Degree in Integral Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies. The focus of my program was a blend of East and West theories of psychology, as well as an integrated approach to the four waves of psychology: Psychoanalytic, Behavioral, Humanistic, and Transpersonal. I'm also a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator and it is the foundation of my work as a whole. #BreneBrownFTW So, if you're wanting to cultivate more self-compassion, build more shame resilience, change your ways of thinking, and finally have true agency over your life, I can help you with that! BONUS: if you also want to nerd out on psychology and laugh a lot, I'm definitely your girl!

Biography: I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor with nearly 20 years of experience helping people manage stress, anxiety, negativity and depressed mood, problematic patterns in relationship, unexpected life events, losses and transitions. I can help you improve communication, achieve work-life balance, manage troubling moods and anxiety, and to understand yourself better. Sometimes we need help making an important decision, and at other times we just need someone to listen deeply and understand. I've worked in community mental health agencies, outpatient counseling centers and inpatient treatment programs, and I love what I do. My life experience spans 60 years, starting on the east coast and making home on the west. I've lived in urban and rural communities with exposure to very different cultures. And I spent nearly 15 years in academia, giving me an intimate understanding of university life. My therapeutic approach will be based on your needs. I apply solution-focused therapy for many issues and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for anxiety and depression. How we talk to ourselves and frame our experience directly impacts how we feel and how we approach challenging circumstances. Much of how we think and behave is shaped by significant others and impactful events in our early lives. Bringing mindful awareness to these habitual ways of thinking and behaving is the first step toward a new experience. Please note: I do not treat active addictions, acute psychiatric conditions, active eating disorders or self-harm. My counseling style is casual and conversational, accepting and curious. I will help clarify your values and strengths, ask questions, offer alternatives, and honor your choices. I may offer resources to guide you outside of session. And because I'm committed to empowering you, I will always be transparent by sharing what I've learned about mental health. I embrace all forms of diversity, and believe everyone deserves to be treated with dignity. If you are introspective, able to reflect on your experience and work through discomfort, are motivated for change, and willing to apply the work outside of session, we'll make a great fit. With all of the changes and challenges that confront us now it can sometimes be hard to remain present and cope with it all. Sometimes we just need another set of eyes and ears to help regain our ground or shift perspective. At other times, we just need to know that someone really "gets" us, and supports us through a tough time. If two heads are better than one, there's no need for you to feel stuck in your own.
