Care Philosophy: Comfort is #1. Why should talking to someone be so daunting? At Myh Library, you'll be as comfortable as sitting in a friend's home sipping coffee together. At Begin To Wake Therapy, you WILL be in your own home and feel free to sip coffee while we chat (decaf recommended for those with anxiety problems). Wrap up in a blanket if that makes you happy. Shoot, I'll have one for those who come to Myh Library to see me in person. And please have a sense of humor (except depressed people, that's understandable), otherwise I'll accidentally offend you repeatedly with mine. I approach therapy like it's a 50/50 partnership. You have been you sitting in your skin for your whole life. That makes you an expert in you. I went to school & have worked in this field for over 20 yrs. Hopefully, that makes me an expert in what I do. If we can bring your expertise together with mine, I think together we can create the vehicle to drive you sane! Oh wait, am I allowed to say that as a therapist? ?

Biography: I aim to work collaboratively with my clients to help them through the various roadblocks and difficulties that life presents. People frequently limit themselves based on old assumptions and expectations and it can be freeing to start to disentangle this. The emotional pain caused by these issues is often isolating and confusing and I believe that it can be healing to have somebody else there with you to explore and process. My approach to therapy is to use self understanding and awareness as a mechanism for change. While my style is primarily insight-oriented, I have experience incorporating behavioral therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy into my approach.

Biography: I am a licensed psychologist in Indiana, Kentucky, and Florida. I have 38 years of experience in working with individuals and families. During my career, I have been the director of hospital units and operated private practices in three states. I have experience in working with individuals from basically all walks of life. I have assisted individuals who have struggled with depression, anxiety, grief and loss issues, trauma, career issues, OCD, ADHD, emotional abuse, and a variety of other trying and difficult life challenges. I have found that life is sometimes very tough and challenging no matter who we are or where we are on life's journey. The core of my therapy style consists of two combined words: "grace/acceptance." I believe that everyone deserves to be treated with the utmost kindness, acceptance, and care by someone who is safe. My life goal, not only as a psychologist but also as a human being, is to treat every person with grace and kindness. A huge aspect of my style is patience and listening. From a clinical standpoint, I would probably best be described as interpersonal and compassionate in approach. I also use cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and rational-emotive strategies and thoughts to assist in the therapeutic process. Additionally, I incorporate a host of other thoughts and strategies that I have gleaned from both secular and non-secular writers over the years. My goal is always to treat everyone as a person with differing needs, thoughts, feelings, goals, and struggles. I do not believe that one technique, strategy, or approach fits all. I am constantly learning and trying to improve so that I can better myself and others. My approach is as a professional and human who has experienced a host of challenges and struggles himself. My thrust is to help each person realize that there is hope, even if they currently feel hopeless and at wits end. Again, all of these techniques are woven into a package that I like to term as a grace (favoring whether one believes that they deserve it or not) or acceptance-oriented approach. For many individuals, it is difficult to step out and seek help; and I understand that, because I am human and have practiced in the field of psychology for more than three decades. I think that the question that often comes to our minds as we take such a risk has to do with safety, that is, will the person I talk to be safe and not judge, criticize, or think poorly of me. My goal initially is to answer that question and continue to answer it via my behaviors and comments with, "No, I will strive to make this a safe and beneficial experience for you. I will treat you with acceptance and grace in the same way that I want to be treated." Please let me know if I can be of assistance to you. If not, please continue to search for someone that you believe can be of help to you. If you are struggling, please don't go it alone!

Biography: Hello and welcome. I am a dually Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Clinical Addictions Counselor working in the state of Indiana. I consider it my honor to walk this journey with you and thank you for entrusting me with this opportunity. I have been fortunate to serve as a therapist in a variety of settings for nearly two decades. My therapeutic approach can best be describes as person-centered and holistic. I am trained in Illness Management and Recovery, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, addictions approaches, family systems therapy, and a variety of eclectic approaches that can be tailored to fit the needs of each individual client. I truly believe in the therapeutic process and relationship. During sessions, you can expect much support and reinforcement (and some gentle challenging) in a safe and collaborative environment. While we may wish it, therapists do not hold the answers for others. We function more like trail guides so that when you are standing in the dark or unknown, we can illuminate the path that has been there all along. And just as that guide merely shows the path, a therapist cannot do the work for you. This is a team event until you are able to take all the skills and tools you've learned and apply them. My goal is to work myself out of a job for every single client I meet. I believe in the value of work/life balance and will practice what I preach. But I will also promise the gift of 100% of my time and attention when we are together for live video/phone sessions. And we can follow up with chat or email between sessions to ensure you get the best possible experience. I look forward to our journey together.

Biography: I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 22 years experience and graduated with Honors. I have experience working with clients with concerns of depression, anxiety/stress, grief and loss, relationship issues, and women's issues. I may use at anytime during a session any of the following interventions; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Client Centered Therapy, and Stress Management. Oftentimes, the origin of our individual emotional struggles are not always apparent to us. We can become alarmed when these struggles begin to impact on our day to day living and relationships. It is then that clients most often begin to reach out for therapy to gain further insight into their thoughts, actions, and feelings. Distorted thinking patterns can fuel low self esteem and affect every area in a persons life. A once used defense mechanism may no longer be useful or beneficial to your mental health and once identified can be discussed in therapy and clients can learn more adaptive ways of coping. I will do my part to provide a relaxed, compassionate, and validating environment for you to explore your life situation.

Biography: As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in private practice it's my education, professional experience and dedication to those that I serve that encourages me to continue to provide the type of personal, quality, down-to-earth and relavant counseling that my clients deserve. For more than 20 years I have had the privilege and opportunity to work with a wide range of populations, diagnoses and circumstances. As part of my undergraduate degree, I completed a six month internship with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. My internship with Vocational Rehab allowed me to work with adults faced with emotional and physical limitations that hindered their ability to obtain and maintain successful employment. Shortly after graduating from college, I continued my work in supportive employment serving individuals with developmental disabilities. During this period I also worked part-time in a group home setting with the same population gaining experience in addressing their individual behavioral needs in the home and community. My direct experience in supportive employment led me to work with a larger mental health center in the role of a case manager with adults in need of gaining and maintaining employment. As a case manager I provided ongoing case management services to adult individuals with mental illness, developed and facilitated a job preparation group, and assisted these individuals with referrals to supported employment programs and the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. I took advantage of an opportunity to continue to build on my experiences in the social work field and return to school to begin work on my Masters Degree. I later joined an agency that served children in residential, foster care and their own homes. I was employed initially in the role of a case manager and provided on-going case management and 24 hour on-call crisis intervention services to children enrolled in their foster care program. As part of my practicum and continuing after graduation with my Masters, I provided individual, family and group therapy to children, adolescents and their adult parents in a home-based setting. This program primarily served juvenile offenders and their families through the Juvenile Probation Department. My enjoyment of working with not only juveniles and their families, but individuals across all ages led to a period of nine and a half years that I provided therapeutic counseling services to children, adolescents and adults at a local community mental health center. My experiences ranged from managing and directing a partial hospitalization program, to crisis intervention and assessment of all ages through a partnership with the regional hospital. During this period, my main mode of treatment was through providing out-patient individual and family therapy to children, adolescents and adults. In October of 2008 I started my own private practice "Choices in Counseling". My interest in private practice was driven by increased limitations and constraints in providing services to clients within the mental health center environment. It is my belief that by operating under a private practice model, I am better able to offer more individualized, comprehensive, quality services to my clients.

Biography: The Initiation of counseling illustrates that an individual is ready to explore the possibilities of growth and refocusing on their strengths. Gaining the courage to attend the first session can be a major hurdle as we acknowledge that we are vulnerable and something is not working in our best interest. With the stigmatism of mental health, many individuals feel that if they seek counseling they may damaged. This is not the case. Counseling is about individuals seeking a safe environment in which they are able to be supported and gain skills to be able to function more optimally in which their lives can be so much more fulfilling. Change is fostered through acceptance and connection. Reconnecting relationships is a major agent of change, whether between the therapist and the individual, parents and their children, or between partners. My goal is to provide a nonjudgmental relationship that will allow for individuals, couples and families to foster healing, growth and repair. I'm a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) who is certified in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) while also using rapid resolution therapy (RRT) and accelerated resolution therapy (ART) to eliminate the persistent symptoms left over from experiencing a traumatic event. I employ The Gottman Method with couples and play therapy with children. I also treat sexual and pornography addictions as I'm a certified sexual addictions treatment provider (SATP-C). I focus on various other modalities of therapy such as solutions focused therapy, logotherapy and cognitive behavioral therapy in order for the client to be able to manage stress, anxiety and depression in a more adaptive manner.
