Biography: Christopher Larkins, M. D. completed his fellowship training at The Steadman Clinic, Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, Co. He completed Orthopaedic Residency at The University of Texas Health Science Center of San Antonio. Dr. Larkins acquired his medical degree at The University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, AZ and his Bachelor of Science, Biochemistry, Magna Cum Laude at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ. His extensive leadership experience includes Director of Bioskills Development in Orthopaedic Surgery for residents in San Antonio, TX, as well as coordinator with Casa de los Nios, University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, AZ. Dr. Larkins has also received honors and awards including The Doctors Company Foundation Young Physicians Patient Safety Award, is an American Academy of Surgical Trauma Scholarship Recipient, and has received the Commitment to Underserved People (CUP) Leadership Award. Biography: Jason Thompson, M.D. is Fellowship Trained in Adult Hip & Knee Reconstructive Surgery and Replacement. He completed training at the Orthopaedic Surgery Division Schulich School of Medicine, University of Western Ontario at London Health Sciences Centre in London, Ontario, Canada. His fellowship training included management of degenerative, rheumatoid, and post-traumatic arthritis of the hip and knee, a high volume of revision hip and knee arthroplasty, as well as exposure to non-arthroplasty alternatives of young adult hip disorders. The emphasis of the fellowship was on revision hip and knee arthroplasty. His orthopaedic research included long-term clinical outcome and database studies, initiation of randomized trials, use of advanced imaging modalities and implant retrieval studies. Dr. Thompson accomplished Orthopaedic Residency at The University of Texas Health Science Center of San Antonio. He also acquired his Medical Degree at The University of Texas Health Science Center of San Antonio, School of Medicine and his Bachelor of Science in General Studies, Magna Cum Laude at The University of Texas at Dallas in Richardson, Texas.His professional experience includes a four-year career as a professional soccer player - playing two years for FC Dallas and two years for DC United in Major League Soccer (MLS), winning the MLS Cup championship in 2004 with DC United. His experiences also include time as a Research Study and Regulatory Coordinator at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas as well as a Patient Care Technician at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. Dr. Thompson was named, by his peers, a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society and the Most Outstanding Resident Mentor in orthopaedic surgery. He was also a member of the U.S. under-23 Men's National Soccer Team and elected into the Eastern Illinois University (EIU) Sports Hall of Fame for his accomplishments with the EIU Men's Soccer Team. Dr. Thompson joins South Texas Bone and Joint to help expand our Orthopaedic and minimally invasive surgery services to the Coastal Bend and beyond. Biography: David R. Schmidt, M.D., received his medical degree and completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio where he was named the 2002 Distinguished Medical Alumnus. He completed fellowships in sports medicine and knee surgery in Sydney, Australia, and Auckland, New Zealand.Dr. Schmidt has been in private practice since 1986. He served as physician for the U.S. Olympic Festival, the World University Games in Japan, the Olympic Games in Atlanta and the NBA All-Star Game. He currently serves as the team physician for the NBA San Antonio Spurs, the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) athletics, Trinity University and many local high school. He was named the NBATA Team Physician of the Year in 2004, and was awarded the 2007 Dr. Ernst Jokl Sports Medicine Award by the United States Sports Academy. He currently serves as president elect of the NBA Physicians Association.Dr. Schmidt is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
