Biography: Born and raised in the Midwest, Dr. Nguyen graduated from the University of Missouri in Kansas City with two bachelor degrees, one in chemistry and another in psychology. He went on to obtain his master's degree in biomedical sciences at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences where he found a particular interest in anatomy. Dr. Nguyen would ultimately obtain his osteopathic medical degree from the same university, after which, he completed an internship at the Hillsdale Hospital providing care at a rural and underserved area. Subsequently, he received his residency training in neurosurgery at Beaumont Health in Detroit; a highly coveted spot as there were only 12 slots in the entire nation for this competitive specialty at the time. He was later named Chief Resident. During his neurosurgery residency, Dr. Nguyen developed a special interest in the spine and pursued a fellowship in orthopaedic spine surgery at the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) where he was immersed in the orthopaedic perspective of spinal surgery and learned from renowned surgeons. This hybrid style of training and dual education is rare for a spine surgeon providing for a unique set of spine-focused clinical acumen. His spine fellowship was indeed rigorous as OHSU is only 1 of 2 level 1 trauma centers in the state of Oregon and is actually the only hospital in the entire Pacific Northwest region to be an academic university hospital that is also a level 1 trauma center ensuring an enriching fellowship experience providing for a vast volume and breadth of cases. In his free time, he loves spending time with his family at the beach or traveling to seek new adventures.

Care Philosophy: Our goals are to provide spinal care with the least amount of risk to our patients. We are trained in both minimally invasive and major reconstructive spinal surgery. We obtained this unique training by completing two different fellowships in spinal surgery instead of the traditional single fellowship; one in minimally invasive spinal treatment and one in major reconstructive spinal treatment.

Care Philosophy: At Joseph Spine, we know that each patient's circumstance is unique and it is important to evaluate each individual with that in mind. Personalized attention, open communication, and collaboration is the cornerstone to achieving a customized spine treatment plan designed for optimal results for each patient. Non-surgical spine procedures are always explored to relieve back pain and correct disorders, but when non-surgical options don't prove effective, Dr. Joseph will employ minimally invasive procedures, stem cell therapy, and customized treatment plans. Minimally invasive spine surgery allows us to provide maximum pain relief with minimal recovery time, all while increasing mobility and accelerating our patients' return to regular activities.
