Biography: Dr. Matthews holds a bachelor™s degree with a major in political science from Tulane University, where he attended from 1989-1993. At Tulane University, Dr. Matthews maintained a full tuition Dean™s Honors academic scholarship while volunteering his time tutoring at nearby schools and participating in the African-American Congress at Tulane. Dr. Matthews™ Residency rotations included internal medicine, psychiatry " inpatient/outpatient/consults, ER, neurology, VA psychiatry, geriatrics, Child and Adolescent, ECT/TMS, addiction, and research. In his free time, Dr. Matthews enjoys playing the saxophone, running, and writing. He has been an active member of the American Psychiatric Association and the American Medical Association.

Care Philosophy: As a primary care physician, I believe in providing a comprehensive range of services to my patients, and doing so with a compassionate and respectful demeanor. I have become intensely invested in more preventative measures to avoid the illness that comes with overwhelming diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, heart disease and stroke. I believe that with adequate education and communication, I can empower my patients to live healthier lives.
