Biography: Dr. Ojas Shah is the George F. Cahill Professor of Urology at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He also serves as the Director of the Division of Endourology and Stone Disease at Columbia University Medical Center. His clinical and research interests include surgical and metabolic treatments of kidney stone disease, minimally invasive urologic surgery, upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (transitional cell carcinoma), ureteral strictures, ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction, ureteral/renal reconstructive surgery, and BPH (benign prostate hyperplasia). He serves as the principal investigator in many clinical research trials regarding the surgical or medical management of stone disease. He is a graduate of the Honors Program in Medical Education at Northwestern University School of Medicine. He completed his general surgical and urologic training at New York University Medical Center. He spent an additional year at Wake Forest University Health Sciences Center as a fellow in endourology, laparoscopy and metabolic stone disease. Dr. Shah is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in the medical and surgical management of patients with urinary stone disease. He recently served as a member of the American Urological Association's Surgical Management of Stones Guidelines Committee. He was also recently appointed to the American Board of Urology's Examination Committee. He is an active member of the Endourological Society, EDGE (Endourology Disease Group for Excellence) Research Consortium, and ROCK (Research on Calculous Kinetics) Society. Dr. Shah is an Assistant Editor for the Journal of Urology, the most highly cited and amongst the most respected international journals in the field. He is also co-editor of the 5th Edition of Taneja's Complications of Urologic Surgery which was released in 2018. Dr. Shah serves as the Director of the Endourology Fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center. He additionally has a strong focus on medical student and resident education, and served as the urology residency program director at NYU School of Medicine prior to joining Columbia. Biography: Cassandra Villegas, MD MPH is an Attending Surgeon at Weill Cornell Medical Center in the Division of Trauma, Burns, Critical, and Acute Care Surgery. She received her B.S. in Biological Sciences from Stanford University, where she was a President' Scholar and received the Teaching Excellence award. She remained at Stanford University as an instructor and doing neuroscience research before joining Teach for America to teach high school science in Los Angeles Unified School District for five years. There, she won the Most Inspirational Teacher Award before leaving education to attend Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. As a medical student, she completed her MPH at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, focusing on data outcomes research while diversifying her medical training at Guy's, King's, and St. Thomas's Hospital in London, England as well as the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland.She continued her outcomes research in trauma and health disparities before starting her general surgery residency at the University of Arizona. While there, she took 1st Place in the American College of Surgeons Resident Paper Competition and earned the American Association for the Surgery Resident Scholarship for her work her in trauma outcomes. She received Resident Educator of the Year twice, and was Awarded Resident of the Year at the Southern Arizona Veteran's Hospital. At the conclusion of her residency, she was awarded the Charles Putnam Chief Resident Teaching Award.Dr. Villegas then completed her Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery Fellowships at New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, where she now serves as faculty and continues her research interest in trauma, emergency surgery, and global health surgery. She is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Easter Association for the Surgery of Trauma, and the Surgical Outcomes Society.

Biography: Jason Hawksworth, MD is a noted pioneer in minimally invasive robotic hepatobiliary and transplant surgery. Dr. Hawksworth is the Surgical Director of Adult Liver Transplantation, Chief of Hepatobiliary Surgery, and the Director of Robotic Liver Surgery Program in the Division of Abdominal Organ Transplant and Hepatobiliary Surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Irving Medical Center and is an Associate Professor at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Hawksworth is known for unique and innovative minimally invasive robotic surgeries to remove tumors of the liver, bile duct and pancreas, including robotic major hepatectomy, robotic pancreatectomy, and robotic Whipple. He also specializes in robotic transplantation including robotic kidney transplantation, robotic living donor nephrectomy and robotic living donor hepatectomy. Dr. Hawksworth received his undergraduate degree from The United States Military Academy at West point and his medical degree from Wake Forest University Bowman Gray School of Medicine. Dr. Hawksworth completed general surgery residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center followed by an abdominal transplant and hepatobiliary surgery fellowship at Georgetown University Hospital. Previously the Chief of Robotic Surgery at Georgetown University Hospital, Dr. Hawksworth established one of the nation's premier robotic hepatobiliary and transplant programs in 2018 at Georgetown. He was recruited to Columbia University Irving Medical Center in 2023 to lead the liver transplant and hepatobiliary programs and continue to develop innovative techniques in robotic surgery. Dr. Hawksworth is a member of several key organizations including a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American Society of Transplant Surgeons, International Laparoscopic Liver Society, and Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association. His research interests include clinical transplant and hepatobiliary trials, and he has published over 60 scientific manuscripts and book chapters in leading journals such as Annals of Surgery, Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery, American Journal of Transplantation and Transplantation.
