Biography: Matthias Hofer is a urologist with Urology San Antonio and specializes in reconstructive and prosthetic urology which includes the treatment of urethral stricture disease, refractory erectile dysfunction including penile implant surgery, and male incontinence. He also has a specialized interest in treating benign prostatic hyperplasia employing established as well as all novel treatment options such as Urolift or Rezum. In addition, Dr. Hofer sees patients for all general urologic conditions including voiding dysfunction and overactive bladder as well as kidney stones.Dr. Hofer graduated from the University of Ulm in Ulm, Germany, as medical doctor in May 2002. Matthias began his Urology training at the University Hospital of Ulm in Germany and interrupted his training for a research fellowship at the Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston focusing on biomarkers of prostate cancer progression. After four years and wanting to pursue a career as physician-scientist he completed a residency in anatomic pathology also at the Brigham and Women's Hospital. After graduating in 2009 and driven by the desire to return to his original passion of urology, he did his residency training at Northwestern University in Chicago graduating in 2015. He subsequently completed a fellowship in urologic reconstruction, trauma and prosthetics at UT Southwestern in Dallas in 2016. Dr. Hofer then returned to Northwestern University as attending urologist where he stayed on staff until September 2020 until he moved to San Antonio to join Urology San Antonio.
