Care Philosophy: Eleny Romanos-Sirakis, MD is a board-certified specialist in pediatric hematology/oncology. She currently serves as the director of the pediatric hemoglobinopathy specialty center at Staten Island University Hospital, where comprehensive care is provided to patients with sickle cell disease and other hemoglobinopathies. She is committed to education and research at SIUH she is actively involved in further advancing research at SIUH as the co-chair of the pediatric research and scholarship committee. Her research interests include sickle cell disease and pediatric pain management. She is also an active committee member of the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.Dr. Romanos-Sirakis provides clinical evaluations and treatments for a wide variety of hematology and oncology concerns. She provides care for pediatric patients from the newborn period through 21 years of age. She specializes in the care of patients with anemia, low white blood cell counts, low platelet counts, bleeding disorders, clotting disorders, sickle cell disease, enlarged lymph nodes, leukemia, lymphoma, and solid tumors.Providing optimal care and assessments, while minimizing the effects of treatments on patients' and families' quality of life is of highest priority for Dr. Romanos-Sirakis. Care Philosophy: Terenig Terjanian, MD, is a hematologist and medical oncologist at Northwell Health, and an assistant professor at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. Growing up in Lebanon, Dr. Terjanians early love for biology and chemistry set him on the path toward medicine. After attending St. Josephs University, he did a residency in pathology at American University of Beirut Medical Center, and one in internal medicine at Staten Island University Hospital. He then did fellowships in hematology and oncology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Although he initially specialized in pathology, Dr. Terjanian chose cancer care as a main focus after coming to the United States in 1981. ``The number one thing I want patients to know is that I'll listen to them,`` he says. ``I try to go over every aspect of their disease slowly, explain why we order the tests we do, and have them be completely aware of all the steps,`` he says, adding that he often gives patients his cell number, because he knows concerns can come up anytime. ``I think of what I would want as a patient, and it would be a doctor who really cares.`` Dr. Terjanian is deeply interested in clinical research. He has been the principal investigator on several protocols, including those of the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project at Staten Island University Hospital, and has published multiple peer-reviewed papers and abstracts and presented at international meetings. He also runs the research committee for medical residents interested in hematology-oncology, and for fellows in that specialty. He's a member of the system-wide Institutional Review Board, a group that ensures clinical trials are done ethically and safely. In addition to participation in weekly tumor board meetings, and frequently providing lectures for interns and residents, Dr. Terjanian still enjoys the chemistry and biology that drew him to medicine from the start, especially since the science in oncology changes so rapidly which leads to improved patient outcomes. ``Every day, there is something new happening in cancer diagnosis and treatment, and it's exciting to see that progress,`` he says. ``Patients are living longer, they're experiencing better quality of life with targeted therapy or immunotherapy. Its immensely satisfying to see how far we've come.``

Care Philosophy: I have expertise in stem cell / bone marrow transplantation, with over 25 years of experience in this field. I am the Associate Director of the Blood and Bone Marrow Transplant Program of New York Presbyterian Hospital - Cornell. and the Service Chief of the inpatient BMT clinical service. I have major interests in improving the overall safety and effectiveness of transplantation. I also have significant experience in the management of hematological malignancies such as leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, myelodysplasia, as well as aplastic anemia. I enjoy teaching residents and fellows management of patients undergoing transplantation and I have published articles in this field. I also review articles for medical journals relating to stem cell transplantation.I am involved in multiple research trials related to BMT, both as a principal and co investigator and I have represented NYP Weill Cornell at the Cancer Alliance Clinical Trials Group, the Myeloproliferative Disease Research group, and the BMT Clinical Trials Network. However, my main love is caring for patients; I enjoy meeting them, guiding them through the transplant process, and having a true doctor patient relationship.
