Biography: Dr. Davin Cordell was born in the sunny state of Florida in Gainesville, but his family kept him moving around the country for the first 6 years of his life before landing in Austin, TX, when he was 7 years old. He has been a proud Texan since then, finishing high school in Austin before going to Houston to attend Rice University for college. After college, out of a desire to give back to the community for his good fortunes in life, he spent the first three years working for a non-profit residential rehabilitation facility as direct care staff and staff trainer for high-risk adolescent boys in trouble. After that, he attended Hardin-Simmons University to attain a Master's degree in Physical Therapy. His first job was working at The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR) in Houston, TX, specializing in neurological rehabilitation. He attained Clinical Specialization Certification in Neurological Rehabilitation and also served as a lecturer in neurological rehabilitation at Hardin-Simmons University. Realizing his love of patient care but desiring a greater challenge, he decided to become a physician. He completed medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, TX, and stayed for his orthopaedic surgery residency training. While in San Antonio, he was involved in research related to pediatric spinal and thoracic deformity and presented his research at international meetings and had one of the studies published in The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. For further training in spine surgery, he had the great fortune of spending a year at Washington University in St. Louis, training at a premier facility for adult and pediatric spine surgery. As part of the fellowship, he was also an AOSpine fellow. AOSpine is an international organization devoted to spine surgery education and training. With his background in physical therapy and specialized training in routine and complex spine surgery, he has a strong interest in both the operative and non-operative management of spine problems. He is married to Oriana and has one daughter, Bella, who he dearly enjoys spending time with. He and his family have found their home in the Coastal Bend.
