Biography: Dr. Rafla-Demetrious is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Weill Cornell Medicine. She received a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and received her M.D. from SUNY Downstate, graduating with the distinct honor of Summa Cum Laude.Dr. Rafla-Demetrious did her medical internship at St. Vincent's Medical Center in N.Y.C, New York. Thereafter, she began her Ophthalmology residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York City in 1994. She then remained there to continue her Fellowship in Glaucoma. Upon completion, she joined the Department of Ophthalmology at New York Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Medical College as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology in 2000.Dr. Rafla-Demetrious's clinical practice specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma and anterior segment diseases.Dr. Rafla Demetrious received honors from the Alpha Omega Alpha (AA) in 1991.

Biography: Dr. Kovacs is a board-certified retina specialist and Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Kovacs specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of vitreoretinal diseases, including conditions such as retinal detachment, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions, epiretinal membranes, macular holes, trauma, endophthalmitis, vitreous hemorrhage, retinal degenerations and dystrophies, and secondary intraocular lenses.Dr. Kovacs has lived his whole life in the Northeast, growing up on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor line. A native of New Jersey, he graduated cum laude from Harvard College. He received his M.D. with distinction in clinical research from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he was also elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha academic honor society and a recipient of the Jesse S Weissberg Scholarship for Academic Excellence.Dr. Kovacs then completed his Internship Training at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He completed Residency Training in Ophthalmology at Yale School of Medicine / Yale New Haven Hospital, followed by Fellowship Training in Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College / New York Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Kovacs was selected to serve as Chief Resident during the final year of his residency at Yale, and received multiple awards during his training including Yale ophthalmology resident research awards in 2017 and 2018, New York Academy of Medicine resident research award in 2017, and the Yale Department of Ophthalmology Marvin Sears Award recognizing clinical and surgical excellence.Dr. Kovacs is actively engaged in clinical and basic science research in retinal diseases and has published approximately 25 peer-reviewed research articles. He has authored several textbook chapters and has regularly presents his research at national and international meetings. Dr. Kovacs also serves as scientific reviewer to several major ophthalmology journals.Dr. Kovacs is also actively involved in resident and fellow education and serves as coordinator of retina education for ophthalmology residents at Weill Cornell.Dr. Kovacs is currently accepting new patients. Biography: Dr. Paul Petrakos is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Weill Cornell Medicine. He is a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist, specializing in the evaluation and treatment glaucoma, including medical management, laser, and surgical procedures. He also performs cataract surgery and is up-to-date on the latest advances in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS).A native New Yorker, Dr. Petrakos graduated from Stony Brook University before attending the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine. Here he served as an Academic Medicine Scholar and received a masters degree in Neuromusculoskeletal Sciences.Dr. Petrakos completed his residency at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College. He then continued his training at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School, completing his glaucoma fellowship and receiving specialized training in trabeculectomy, glaucoma drainage device implantation, laser trabeculoplasty and iridotomy, complex cataract extraction, laser-assisted cataract extraction, implantation of astigmatic (toric) and multi-focal intraocular lenses, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery.Dr. Petrakos is committed to providing personalized glaucoma and cataract care supplemented by the newest technologies, instruments, and techniques. He is an author and co-author of a number of journal articles and book chapters. His areas of clinical and research interest include ocular imaging, medical and surgical treatments of glaucoma.
