Biography: Suhein D. Galloza-Rivera, MD, is a fellowship-trained Infectious Disease specialist with Richmond Infectious Disease Specialists in Richmond, Virginia. She is bilingual in English and Spanish.Dr. Galloza-Rivera received her Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from University of Puerto Rico in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and completed her medical training at Universidad Central Del Caribe School of Medicine in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. She then completed an internship in General Surgery at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. Following her internship, Dr. Galloza-Rivera completed a research year in the Trauma Division of the Department of General Surgery in University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. Afterward, she decided to change her career path and finished her residency training in Internal Medicine from Hospital Damas, in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Dr. Galloza-Rivera has since completed her training in Infectious Diseases from Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) in Norfolk, Virginia.Dr. Galloza-Rivera is board-certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and is expertly trained in the area of Infectious Diseases. She is an active member of the Infectious Disease Society of America. In addition, she has performed extensive research on the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases and has published articles in several medical journals, including the Journal of Microbiology and Laboratory Science and the American Journal of Kidney Diseases. Dr. Galloza-Rivera also regularly shares her research findings at professional case conference presentations and was involved in a quality improvement study regarding the screening rate of syphilis in patients with HIV at EVMS's Hofheimer Hall Infectious Diseases Clinic.Dr. Galloza-Rivera believes in giving back to her community. In the past, she has offered her services at American Heart Association (AHA) and other health clinics in her native Puerto Rico. When not caring for patients, she enjoys spending time with her family, doing yoga, reading, and is a dog lover. Dr. Galloza-Rivera is very family-oriented and considers her family to be her biggest motivator.
