Biography: Irina A. Gendler, MD is a board certified family medicine physician who earned her medical degree from Novosibirsk State Medical University, Novosibirsk, Russia. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine/Wright Patterson Medical Center. Dr. Wiegand served as an officer within the Air Force in both Ohio and Virginia before completing a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. During her time in the Air Force, Dr. Wiegand taught residents, served as the medical student clerkship director at Wright-Patterson Medical Center, and was the Deputy Medical Director at Langley Hospital's Women's Clinic. While at UNC Chapel Hill, Dr. Wiegand completed several research projects in the areas of ultrasound, prenatal diagnosis, and substance use disorders in pregnancy. These are special areas of interest to her along with pre-existing maternal medical conditions, in-utero therapy, and resident education. Dr. Wiegand, her husband (who is also an Air Force military veteran), and their three children returned to Dayton in 2015.
