Biography: Dr. Cowan joined Austin Area Obstetrics, Gynecology & Fertility in 2000 and has helped women from in and around Austin, Texas to find improved health and deliver healthy, happy babies by providing high quality gynecological and obstetrics services. Dr. Cowan is a native of Hillsboro, Texas and completed his undergraduate work in biology at The University of Texas in 1987. He earned his medical degree at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. His residency in obstetrics and gynecology was completed at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth in 1995, where he was chief resident. He is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a member of the Texas Medical Association and serves on the executive board of both the Travis County Medical Society and the Blood and Tissue Center in Austin. He is also an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology for the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Dr. Cowan is a popular physician in the community and has been a speaker for women's issues many times. He is a frequent guest on television and radio programs. During her residency, Dr. Truitt was recognized with the Czaja Award for her clinical research in the use of hybrid grafts in prolapse repair.She pursued additional training in the areas of patient care and leadership, including serving on St. Francis Hospital's Residency Education Committee, and participating in the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology's Workshop: Preparing to be Teachers and Leaders.Dr. Truitt offers specialized knowledge and training in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Basic Cardiac Life Support and Neonatal Resuscitation. She belongs to the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Medical Association.When she is not seeing patients, Dr. Truitt is involved in community efforts to raise awareness and funds for ovarian cancer research, and she has served as a volunteer for the Texas Center for Disease Control. In her free time, Dr. Truitt enjoys reading, hiking, running, sailing and spending time with her family.

Biography: Dr. Patel is passionate about providing continuous care throughout a woman's life. She enjoys all aspects of patient care, from prevention and treatment to pregnancy and menopause. Dr. Patel combines her expertise and training with compassion to help women achieve their best health. She strives to form a comfortable partnership with the women she treats. She received her undergraduate degree in physiological science from the University of California, Los followed by a master's degree in physiology and biophysics from Georgetown University. Dr. Patel then earned her medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School.Dr. Patel assumed several leadership roles during residency, including serving as the patient safety and quality improvement chief and as a resident representative on the RN/Resident Council. She was inducted into the Gold Humanism Society as a medical student and received the prestigious UT Dell Medical School Women's Health Humanism Award in residency.Dr. Patel believes she serves her patients best by learning new skills and information. She completed the work to become a NAMS Certified Menopause Practitioner so that she can provide lifetime care for her patients. During her medical and residency training, Dr. Patel completed several research projects. Some projects included a survey about birth control knowledge for patients with a high-risk of developing endometrial cancer and a case series on ovarian tissue preservation.Dr. Patel is a proud member of the American Medical Association, an associate member of The North American Menopause Society (NAMS) and a junior fellow with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.During her free time, Dr. Patel enjoys traveling, hiking and playing board games with family and friends.
