Care Philosophy: My professional focus is equally directed on the direct care of patients intimately combined with teaching Fellows diagnostic and interventional therapeutic cardiac procedures in the catheterization laboratory. I consider it a significant privilege to work side by side with so many other experts in the provision of excellent health care. In particular Faculty status at Cornell provides me with the time and opportunity to practice the discipline of cardiac catheterization in the most professional manner. I greatly enjoy the responsibility of teaching Fellows the skills and importance of the catheterization laboratory. Combining this with an interest in clinically based outcomes type research completes my busy schedule.

Biography: Dr. Bruce B. Lerman is the H. Altschul Master Professor of Medicine, was Chief of the Division of Cardiology for 28 years and Director of the Electrophysiology Laboratory at Weill-Cornell and the New York Presbyterian Hospital until stepping down in June 2023. He received his medical degree from Loyola University - Stritch School of Medicine, was an intern and medical resident at Northwestern University and completed his cardiology fellowship at Johns Hopkins. He trained in cardiac electrophysiology at the University of Pennsylvania. He has authored over 200 original publications, 60 book chapters and 2 books. He is a recipient of the Established Investigator Award from the American Heart Association and had received multiple grants from the NIH. He is currently on the editorial boards of Circulation, Heart Rhythm, Journal of Cardiac Electrophysiology, Pacing and Clinical Electrophysology and the Journal of Innovations in Cardiac Rhythm Management. He is a member of the exam writing committee of the American Board of Internal Medicine for the Cardiac Electrophysiology Board Examination..His research contributions include elucidating the myriad electrophysiologic mechanisms of the nucleoside adenosine, pioneering the concept of current-based defibrillation and determining the role of mechanoelectrical feedback as a stimulus for triggering malignant ventricular arrhythmias. His current work focuses on the the cellular and molecular mechanisms of ventricular outflow tract tachycardia. His laboratory has identified critical somatic mutations in the cAMP signal transduction cascade that mediate this form of ventricular tachycardia, thus introducing a new paradigm for the causation of ventricular tachycardia. He has been issued 4 patents.He clinical concentration focuses on the diagnosis and treatment (ablation) of complex atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, as well as on the treatment of life-threatening arrhythmias with implantable devices. For the last 15 years, he's been named in New York Magazine- Best Doctors, Castle Connolly America's Top Doctors, US News and World Report (Best Doctors) and the New York Times (Super Doctors).

Biography: Dr. Charles L. Bardes graduated from Princeton University (summa cum laude) in 1978 and from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1986. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency training at The New York Hospital (now known as NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital) in 1989. He has served on the medical center's faculty since that time and teaches at Weill Cornell Medical College, having served as Associate Dean (Admissions) for 21 years. In addition to numerous awards for teaching and clinical care, he is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha and a fellow of both The American College of Physicians and the New York Academy of Medicine. He also serves as associate editor for the Journal of General Internal Medine and The Blood Project.

Biography: Dr. Mark S. Pecker is an Attending Physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital / Weill Cornell Medical Center (NYPH-WCMC) and is a Professor of Clinical Medicine and a Professor of Clinical Medicine in Physiology and Biophysics at Weill Cornell Medical College. He received his MD from New York University School of Medicine in 1977 and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Affiliated Hospitals, where he served as Chief Resident. He is certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine and a Fellow of the American College Physicians.Dr. Pecker is an American Society of Hypertension Hypertension Specialist with expertise in autonomic dysfunction, aortic dissection and secondary and endocrine hypertension. Dr. Pecker has a passion for medical training. He served as the Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency at NYPH-WCMC for 15 years. He remains active in teaching residents and medical students in New York, as well as at Hamad General Hospital and Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar. He helps supervise the yearly International Case Discussion Summer School in Munich, Germany, in coordination with the medical faculties of the Technical University of Munich and Ludwig Maxmillian University.At Weill Cornell he is an Associate Program Director of the Tri-Institution MD-PhD Program. He also serves as a Chair on the Translation Research Advisory Committee and as the Clinical Sciences Pathway Exploratory Advisor for the Area of Concentration Program at Weill Cornell Medicine.

Biography: Dr. Pearse is a graduate of Dartmouth College and of the combined MD/PhD program at Cornell University Medical College. He completed a Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center from 1991-1993 and was an Instructor at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Cornell from 1993-1998, participating in the MSKCC autologous bone marrow transplant program and lymphoma/myeloma program. He was Guest Investigator at Rockefeller from 1997-2000, where he did important and creative work on the role of TNF receptor family members in myeloma and bone biology. In 2000, he joined the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology to join the Multiple Myeloma Program and establish a basic science laboratory.Dr. Pearse has been an attending physician in the Division of Lymphoma/Myeloma Service, Leukemia Service, and Transplant Service since 2000. He is an expert in the clinical management of hematologic malignancies, specifically myeloma, and plays an important clinical role on our autologous and allogeneic bone marrow transplantation unit.Dr. Pearse is nationally recognized for his research on the pathobiology of multiple myeloma.

Care Philosophy: As the Director of the Multiple Myeloma Center at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, my duties will focus on providing outstanding clinical care and coordinating a world class clinical translational research program. Prestigious investigators have joined forces to create one of the leading centers for myeloma research. I have no doubt that this cooperative effort forms one of the best myeloma research groups on the World. My 25 years of experience as a myeloma physician has helped me to appreciate how important it is to treat patients in the context of a comprehensive and individualized program. New York Presbyterian Hospital has an outstanding Bone Marrow Transplant Service (a treatment modality often used for myeloma patients), performing more than 100 transplants per year. It has also been rated the best in the world in the fields of cardiology (heart), neurosurgery and nephrology (kidney). The Hospital for Special Surgery, also part of the New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell system, has an outstanding group of orthopedic surgeons that support a new comprehensive bone disease program. In addition, as part of our continuing search for more effective therapeutic options, we offer multiple clinical trials utilizing promising new drugs and medical procedures for treating myeloma and related hematological disorders. The ultimate goal is to find the cure for multiple myeloma. The establishment of a free standing Multiple Myeloma Center at New York Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell Medical Center is an important step towards the accomplishment of this goal.

Biography: Dr. Elan Goldwyn is a board certified Orthopaedic Surgeon practicing at NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Queens located in Fresh Meadows, NY. He received his medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine Yeshiva University and completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Goldwyn is the Director of Orthopedic Trauma Service at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens and is also an Assistant Professor of Clinical Orthopedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine.
