Biography: Matthew D. Nguyen, MD, is a board certified fellowship trained ophthalmologist with an interest in cataract surgery, corneal transplant surgery including Descemet's membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) and Descemet's stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK), refractive surgery, anterior segment surgery, and general ophthalmologic practice. He provides comprehensive eye exams for corneal conditions, cataracts, diabetes, dry eye, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. He is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Weill Cornell Medicine and Assistant Attending Ophthalmologist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medicine.Dr. Nguyen was born in Virginia and grew up in New York and New Jersey. He graduated from Columbia University in New York with a BA in Neuroscience and Behavior. He remained in New York for his MD at Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he was awarded the Behrens Memorial Prize in Ophthalmology. He received his ophthalmology residency training at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was given the Distinguished Housestaff Award. Following residency, he completed a cornea fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. Biography: Dr. Shi is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr. Shi is a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist and skilled in general ophthalmology. She specializes in glaucoma evaluation and treatment, including medical management, laser, and glaucoma surgery. She performs cataract surgery and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery.Dr. Shi completed her undergraduate studies at Harvard University and her medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. She completed her residency in Ophthalmology at the prestigious UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute in Los Angeles, CA, one of the highest-ranked programs in the nation. She remained there to continue her fellowship in Glaucoma. She is involved in clinical research and authored several peer-reviewed journal articles.Dr. Shi is currently accepting new patients. Biography: Qing Wang, MD, PhD, is Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and a clinician-scientist specializing in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma. Her surgical expertise includes cataract and both minimally invasive and traditional glaucoma surgeries. Her research focus is on understanding why retinal ganglion cells are lost in glaucoma and developing new treatments to protect and restore these cells. Dr. Wang graduated from Yale University with a BS and MS in Molecular Biophysicis and Biochemistry. She subsequently came to Columbia University where she earned her MD and PhD through the Medical Scientist Training Program. Her doctoral dissertation was on the molecular programs that distinguish different subpopulations of retinal ganglion cells during development. She went on to complete her ophthalmology residency and postdoctoral research fellowship on optic nerve regeneration at the Stein Eye Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles. Before returning to Columbia, she completed a glaucoma clinical fellowship at Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Wang is a rising star in glaucoma research and has won many awards throughout her training. Clinically, she is dedicated to addressing the needs of each individual patient to protect their vision and maximize their quality of life.
