Biography: Alexander van der Ven, M.D., is a fellowship-trained, Board-certified orthopedic surgeon with Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute and a member of Baptist Health Medical Group, an organization of more than 18 physicians in multiple specialties closely aligned with Baptist Health South Florida. He specializes in total joint replacement, revision replacement and reconstruction of the hip and knee, and hip arthroscopy. Dr. van der Ven completed the Otto E. Aufranc Fellowship in Orthopedic Adult Reconstruction at New England Baptist Hospital, and served as a clinical instructor in orthopedic surgery at Tufts University. A Massachusetts native, Dr. van der Ven earned his undergraduate degree from Boston College and his medical degree and MBA in healthcare management from Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed several research projects at the Massachusetts General Hospital Bioengineering Laboratory in knee reconstruction, and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honors society. Dr. van der Ven completed his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine/Jackson Memorial Hospital. During residency, he also served as a team physician for the Miami-Dade County Public Schools sport programs. His clinical interests include degenerative, congenital and inflammatory disorders of the hip and knee, with a focus on less invasive techniques, arthroplasty longevity and early rehabilitation. He also specializes in the early treatment of hip disorders with minimally invasive techniques such as hip arthroscopy. Dr. van der Ven has published articles in several peer-reviewed medical journals and has lectured nationally. He is currently a clinical assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Florida International University's Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine.

Biography: Eduardo Icaza, M.D., is a comprehensive and interventional pain management physician at Miami Neuroscience Institute, part of Baptist Health. Dr. Icaza is double board-certified in anesthesiology and pain management. He specializes in diagnosing and treating various acute and chronic pain conditions including spinal, neuropathic and postsurgical pain. He is fluent in English and Spanish. Prior to joining Miami Neuroscience Institute in 2022, Dr. Icaza served as an interventional pain physician at Mendelson Kornblum Orthopedics, Spine and Pain Specialists for four years. He also consulted for several Detroit-area hospitals. He earned the Robert Sweet Excellence in Anesthesiology award at the University of Michigan Medical School. He's published research in Anesthesiology and Anesthesia and Analgesia as well as presented at national conferences. Dr. Icaza's approach to patient care is based on treating each patient like a family member. He seeks to listen and understand the source of the pain before discussing and recommending the best treatment plan. When he is not treating patients, Dr. Icaza enjoys spending time with family, running, cycling, reading and following University of Michigan sports.

Biography: Mariana De Michele, M.D., is a board-certified primary care physician at Baptist Health. Dr. De Michele specializes in womens health, weight management and preventative medicine, including diabetes prevention. She is fluent in Spanish, English and Italian. Dr. De Michele is also a clinical faculty at Baptist Health for the upcoming internal medicine residency program. Prior to joining Baptist Health in 2022, Dr. De Michele worked as a clinical assistant professor of internal medicine for Michigan Medicine, the academic medical center of the University of Michigan. She was also a clinical assistant professor at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and the director of Cleveland Clinics public walk-in clinic. Dr. De Micheles research includes diabetes prevention, pre-diabetes, physician education and the improvement of healthcare access. Her work is published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine and the Journal of Medical Internet Research. She is also a member of the American College of Physicians Dr. De Michele received several awards from the University of Michigan and Cleveland Clinic Foundation, including the Caring with Excellence Award and the Steven E. Gradwohl Excellence in Continuity General Medicine Teaching Award, which she won twice. She also received three times the Making a Difference Award, a recognition given by patients. Dr. De Michele believes in building long-term relationships with patients, serving each with time, dedication and commitment. Seeing herself as the quarterback of patients medical care, she treats patients like family using compassionate evidence-based care and holistic treatments. When she is not treating patients or instructing new doctors, Dr. De Michele enjoys running, gardening, traveling and spending time with family.

Biography: Dr. Thomas San Giovanni, MD is an Orthopedic Surgery Specialist who practices in Coral Gables, FL. He is 59 years old and has been practicing for 33 years. Biography: Richard Morgan, D.O., is a spine care physician at Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute, specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Dr. Morgan earned his osteopathic medicine degree from Nova Southeastern University and completed his physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at Larkin Community Hospital in Miami. As a physiatrist, Dr. Morgan focuses on providing rehabilitation treatment plans that help patients regain function and mobility. His clinical and research interests include diagnostic and interventional neuromuscular ultrasound, spasticity management and regenerative medicine. Dr. Morgans research has been published in medical journals, such as the Journal of Brachial Plexus and Peripheral Nerve Injury. He has also presented extensively at national medical meetings and is a member of American Osteopathic College of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Association of Academic Physiatrists and North American Spine Society.
