Biography: Dr. Shakil Ahmed is a board-certified pain physician with over two decades of experience at Weill Cornell Medicine. After completing six years of surgical training in the United Kingdom and earning his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), Dr. Ahmed pursued residency training in anesthesiology at Columbia University, followed by a quad-institutional Pain Fellowship program at New York-Presbyterian, Hospital for Special Surgery, Memorial Sloan Cancer Center and Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.Since joining the Anesthesiology department in 2001, Dr. Ahmed has been dedicated to advancing pain management through clinical care, teaching, and research. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology and has held significant roles such as Interim Director and Associate Director of the Tri-Institute Pain Medicine Fellowship Program.Dr. Ahmed's expertise spans chronic pain management, including chronic back pain, acute pain, neuropathic pain, post-herpetic neuralgia, phantom limb pain, pelvic pain, post-laminectomy pain syndrome, and chronic pain from degenerative joint diseases. He is adept at performing diagnostic and therapeutic spinal injections, discography, percutaneous discectomy, implantation of spinal cord stimulators and intrathecal pumps, and pulsed and thermal radiofrequency neurolysis. Integral to his practice is the pursuit of cutting-edge pain techniques including spinal cord stimulation, radiofrequency neurolysis, intrathecal pain therapies, percutaneous disc decompression, and non-invasive laser therapy. Additionally, he has a special interest in developing a comprehensive cancer pain program in collaboration with his oncology colleagues.Dr. Ahmed is actively involved in medical research and is the principal investigator in research collaboration for the advancement of state-of-the-art pain technologies. Biography: Dr. Farah Hameed was raised in Houston, TX for most of her life. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where she majored in the Plan II Honors Program and graduated with University Honors. She attended medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch, where she was awarded her Medical Degree. She completed her internship in Internal Medicine at Boston University Medical Center, and she completed her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School/Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. She completed her fellowship in Spine and Sports Medicine at Northwestern University through the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago where she won the Baskin Award for excellence in research. She serves as the Medical Director of women's health rehabilitation. She is board certified in both Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine. In addition to seeing patients, Dr. Hameed is also an Associate Professor at the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons in the Department of Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine. She serves as the Department Chair of Quality and Patient Safety and is the Associate Chair of Faculty Development. She has been nominated and inducted into the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons Academy of Clinical Excellence (ACE). She has also been named as one of NY's Super Doctors. Dr. Hameed sees patients of all ages, from adolescents to adults. Additionally, she specializes in pregnancy related back and pelvic girdle pain as well as caring for female athletes. Her goal is to plan comprehensive and structured rehabilitation programs for patients by treating their injuries quickly and creating a personalized regimen of care for each patient. She also focuses on education and awareness of injury prevention through proper training and technique.
